Robbed an Oscar

I feel this movie didn't get the props it deserved. I just find this movie to be one of the best films of our time. This is my favorite movie and when ever people ask me what my favorite film is I say this and alot of people don't know what it is. It makes me sad because I wish more people knew about this brilliant film. This definately should have been nominanted for an Academy Award atleast.

I wouldn't say that it's one of the best films of our time, but it was certainly a very good one, and it was probably my favorite Diane Lane film. I'd give it 3 1/2 stars out of 4. I liked everything about the movie - the story, the characters, the scenery and, best of all, just watching Diane.

I agree that she should have at least been nominated for an Oscar, as she was for a Golden Globe. The movie she SHOULD have won an Oscar for, however, was "Unfaithful," another one of my favorite Diane films. Her performance in that movie was outstanding, and was far better than Nicole Kidman's in "The Hours."

I think many of us are surprised by Oscar winners. Many times over. Diane had the better performance that year.

Exactly. I was expecting her to be nominated that year. She displayed her range in that role. It was a delight to watch her here.

Diane Lane looked the best during the many scenes she was running.

Diane Lane at least deserved to be nominated for Best Actress. Diane Keaton was (and also won the Golden Globe) for the lesser (IMO) Something's Gotta Give. Heck, Jamie Lee Curtis in Freaky Friday (also, another GG nominee that year) deserved a nod more than Keaton. I really didn't care for Keaton in SGG. She was just her usual, quirky, histrionic self, as she's in all her rom-coms. Lane showed great range in UTTS. Even her facial expressions said so much, like when she walks into Katherine's apartment while she's getting her portrait painted. At first, you only see it from France's POV, and her reaction tells you everything before you see it, without being OTT. JLC also showed great range, when she morphed from the strict, stodgy, therapist mom to the rebellious, teenage, garage band daughter, with aplomb. I remember both Lane and JLC being seriously considered for a nomination that year, but in the end Keaton beat them, inexplicably.
