Bad cast + Bad screen play

Every character adaptation of this movie completely ruins the characters in the book, and I pretty much refuse to let this movie represent the book in any sense. Gene's character, is supposed to be smart, cognitive--he doesn't come off this way in the film. Oh, and Finny? Ha, that has got to be the biggest disappointment, I imagined Finny as much funnier and much more clever, whereas the movie portrays him as some over the top happy phsyco. Very obnoxious, that kid would not stop smiling. Horrible casting.

I liked Leper and Brinker was good as well, but the two main characters should have been much better cast.

Eh, i really like it as a movie, but it really isn't true to the book. I guess that everyone has their own visions of Gene and Finny, and i guess its hard to pick people to make everyone happy with the best they can get. Finny was good, but not nearly what i expected him to be. Gene wasn't as expressive as i'd have liked, either, but hey, they did ok.

I thought the two actors portraying Gene and Finny did a good job.

Yeah, I tend to agree with you. I thought the guy who played Gene just fell flat. He was the biggest dissapointment for me. I suppose it is difficult to translate an introverted narrator character from a book to the screen and effectively portray this character, but he really didn't feel like Gene to me. I wasn't a big fan of Finny, either. He overacted a lot and you're right, he just came off as obnoxious. I think the guy who played Brinker was the best actor out of the four of them.

None of the characters really 'felt' like the characters in the books, although this probably has something to do with the fact that I already have an imaginary cast in my head, but all the same...bad casting.
