Self pity
I really enjoyed Joey Pants's character except for the excessive self pity that was just way over the top at times. Ok, we get it..just get the story rolling a bit more.
Self pity doesn't work well on film.
I would have to agree that this character did seem to enjoy wallowing in his own crap and a little delusional about his writing talent and it did get kind of old but Pantoliano's performance did not. It was very refrshing seeing Pantoliano in a leading role for a change and he was definitely up to the challenge.
