Hello johnny,
I looked up this movie after just watching for the first time and felt a real connection. It is a very good flick with a story line that is so much real life that one wonders why this type of realife story is not put to the media more often.
To rewrite into a short version what I started ,I think It all comes down to two friends ,one who became very succesfull with no real love or woman in his life and the other who even though was married at one time to a very beatiful women felt in some way he had ended up one wrung lower on the ladder than he felt life dealt him. (balding).However there was so much more in his life with his social dinners ,golfing and just sharing every day life with his pals it was`nt untill later after his buddy comes back east and trys to sell himself off as even better (the ex,and common other female relations including the girls in the bar)than just a producer. That I think both were wanting what the other had in life .After all he was trying to sell his screenplay to his old fiend .
Network,Network,Network.

And this story I think goes to show us
second best could very well BE BEST.

Buy a copy of it and put it on a shelf till you're about 35 or 40 years old...then you are going to get SUCH a kick out this flick!

it's about the feeling you get when you're around a friend who outshines you -- he makes more money, commands a room better than you, attracts women more easily, is clearly the alpha dog among your friends. how does that make you feel? many are jealous, overwhelmed, hurt, simply can't handle it. that's what second best is about. i'm eric weber, the writer and director of the film. if you didn't understand it, at least i hope you enjoyed it.
