what do you think? i think it was great

i think that movie is perfect wethar in acting, directing, music, editing & of course the screenplay. i loved the ending and i almost cried- although i am a boy! I thimk that raring this film (R= 16+) in Egypt is a very good desicion. that's better of course than sensoring, although the movie didnt contain except few sex scene. But due to the sexual content of the movie. what does everyodey think?

I liked it. It’s much deeper than all the other Egyptian movies they make nowadays. But I think it would have been better with less sex. You can get the point across without showing us so much. I think there real star here is the writer. Seems brilliant. Can’t wait to see more of his stuff. But I wouldn’t recommend the movie for kids. At least Egyptian kids. There was a 7 year old boy with is mom a few rows down from where I was sitting. I doubt he understood or liked it. But all in all it was a great movie. I cried and laughed and can’t wait to see it again.

Thank you Ranya for helping me display the point i've been trying to visualize in the other thread.
"But I think it would have been better with less sex. You can get the point across without showing us so much. I think there real star here is the writer. Seems brilliant."
I totally agree with that, since like i said, the story would have been better illustrated in a book... I wouldn't take my family along to go watch a porn movie.. and i think that most people agree. Not minding the sex scenes today encourages movie makers in Egypt to add even more sex scenes to their movies tomorrow, until oneday we're going to wake up to find a huge movie ad hanging in a shopping mall with a picture of a bare naked woman smiling at us.. but don't you guys worry.. i'm sure all the sex are totally related to the story concept.

Have a nice day.

for god sake this movie is rated: R (16 +)
that was the woman's mistake to take her child for that that movie.
whos said it's for all ages.
and lets not fool ourselves everrbodey in this country have a decoder and a PC & whatch on both of them uncensored american movies.
so they whatch these scenes regularly.

So having a porn store on the corner of your street gives the government the right to play porn movies on TV after midnight, for instance? The point you're hanging on to is so shallow and thin i can even see it naked. I think that the government and the movie makers should have displayed some respect to the ethics of the culture and to the religion mainly believed in and respected and somehow followed in this country. Please understand your point, come up with a convincing answer... and i'm ready to listen and understand... but please don't waste our time.

Thank you Joe... Take care.. and enjoy the movies on your decoder.

reply

it is obvious that i am wasting your time, not because i'm shallow as you said but because you are closed minded narrow headed person. sorry, dont take it personally, but believe me you are ok the hell with the egyptian movies what's your favourit american movies?
& is there anybodey else would like to join rather than the 2 of us try to invite other people & pls answer my question.

reply

Well, we're two adults trying to initiate a mature conversation. Being narrow minded is not to "respect" the other person's opinion.. it's not to disagree with it. I hope you can understand that. And regarding my favorite movie, I'd have to say Fight Club is my favorite. Great acting, great novel, awsome directing. The film is perfect.
Egyptian cinema has a good future if beliefs and cultural ideas are well taken care off and exposed worldwide. Trying to emulate American movies will get us nowhere. It's like dressing up in red, just because Georgio Armani says that you have to.. u know what i mean? i hope you do.

Take care mate.. and hopefully more people will join us soon.

Gentlemen,

Can we discuss the movie without turning it into a fight and, I dare you to find any discussions turned this way on IMDB, even in more controversial subjects, no need to use shallow or narrow minded, we are discussing a movies not yourselves.
Back to the movie, yes the movie is good, and maybe great if you compare it to the other stuff we have been watching for the last 5 years
The sex scene was mandatory to understand the feeling of Aly’s wife; I don’t recall any other sex scenes!
Sex scenes is not something we discovered now days, it is there in Egyptian movies for more than 50 years and we still don’t have porn stores down the corner of the street!

Sex scenes???
What sex scenes...
I watched the movie this weekend on the Arab Film Festival and thought it was a nice movie, but too long.
The movie looked to me like a soap. What I found very refreshing was the way the director let the audience who were suspicious, see that not all Egyptians run around on camels or wear long dresses and the women have noting to say at all!
In this movie it looked like the men were the beaten party..
But I didn't see a boob or any other exposed bodypart that shouldn't be seen, so don't worry.
I do agree the movie is not suitable for kids. When I was watching the movie there was a husband and wife with a kid who didn't understand what was going on and started to bore himself, so we had a little movie in the movie..

Hello,

A bit late for a respond, but I've only watched the movie now, and only because of all the praises I've heard about it.

First of all, let me add some follow up to some of the stuff that have been mentioned then I can say what I think.
1- I don't think we need to get into heated discussions, although I do admit that the movie is controversial, so Joe, highwayer, take it easy guys.
2- HPLG1100, comparing movies in the past 5 years, you will find Ard Al Khoof, 2000 times better in every aspect of movie making.
3- I do agree that the scene with aly's wife is necessary, and it is justified since the movie is already titled (for adults), but let's not forget that their problem wasn't solved in the end, or solved in a very lame way.

I think this whole thing is over rated, I already voted 1 for it, not cause it deserves 1, but to balance the whole thing, 19 one gave it 10, 10 in HELL, so what should I rate LOTR or the Godfather, the real value would be 6 (5 the actual value and + 1 supporting an Egyptian movie), so I gave it 1 to diminish the effect of those giving it 10.
The acting was OK, not total brilliance, but acceptable, screenplay was fine, but nothing superb, directing, mmm, didn't even feel anything about it.
So as a total it was a nice movie, a bit boring but nice.

Last thing, the thing I hated about the movie is the approach, well, it's talking about a small slice of the Egyptian community, maybe 2% or maybe more.
Also the movie was dealing with the Egyptian Ethics in a way I didn't like (I said Egyptian not Islamic nor Christians, which I see they are both the same thing).
Talking about the slice and Sex in movies, What about Adel Imam's "Al Nom fe Asal", pretty much talking about forbidden stuff (forbidden for Egyptian cinema), BUT it was talking about Egyptians, really Egyptians, the 70 Million not some hunderds, the last scene of that movie always gives me the shiver, AAAAAAAHHHHHHH, the people saying AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, don't come talking to me about this movie (Sahar El Layalee) adding anything, the movie's point is way to less aggressive than "Al Nom Fe Asal", so I really get pissed of listening to words like, A BREAKTHOUGH, not it's NOT, just another above average movie.

If we stick with this movie as a start, stop copying bad american cinema and taking our Ethics and heritage into consideration, I think we might see something we will be all proud of in the future.

Thanks and keep up the good work.
