Did anyone get Vertigo and American Psycho vibes from this movie? The former is unquestionable, with the whole remaking a woman into someone else, in both cases blondes. Novak is probably even a reference to Kim Novak, whose character in Vertigo is most present in this film. The AP part is just the whole yuppie with a dark side bit. Some of the bathroom shots were very reminiscent of AP.

Yes! I came here to post a very similar point, that the main character bears a strong resemblance to the lead in American Psycho. Of course at the beginning - a straight laced, well-groomed, corporate performer. But the scene where he cuts up the landlord and blood splatters on his face - that could have been right out of American Psycho.
One difference though is this film shows the transition of the killer from a naive and mostly well-intentioned person to psycho, whereas Patrick Bateman was full on crazy from the get go.
