Language problem
I like the overall story but I found it very weird that those people David meets in the various countries all speak English to him automatically (except for the American tourists).
shareThey don't. The point is even addressed in the movie, with him being told in the prison how he's heard so many languages in the camp and that he can use that to understand people as he travels. You see it in action on the ship - when the guy in the hold is speaking in Italian, then it morphs into "English" - what's really happening is that David is understanding the Italian. The point is made pretty clearly.
