They need a bigger budget...

While I thoroughly enjoy the installments of HH, the CGI in "Loyalty" was *SO* obvious! It's been a while since I've watched previous episodes but "Loyalty" could have used a little more money in the FX department.

It wasnt that bad dude.

Maybe when they blew up that little signal tower w/ the guy and his whore was a bit obvious,as for everything else it was great.

Loved when Horatio ran from the fire!

This Has Been A MuffinJuice Production

Well, to me it was very obvious. :) Some of the shots of the ships was very obvious. And the signal tower explosion was too. Other TV movies have had better CGI effects.

I'll grant it didn't take away from the enjoyability of the movies, and I'm not usually one to search out flaws, but they were rather obvious to me.

Just my view.

I totally agree

It might be because Granada ( the British TV company that made the Hornblower series) is, I guess when compared to many similar companies in the US, not a huge coporation with tons of money. They are a regional TV producer here in the UK, and without extra funding have to make do with a limited budget. IMO they did a great job regardless.

I was surprised by the naff CGI in this episode, did the previous episodes have any CGI in them?

reply

They filmed the first four on the black sea and then CGI after that. Not sure what the details were, maybe it was just too difficult and expensive.

That is the reason they stopped making the series. They got too expensive. Ioan Grufford admitted this not long ago, and he also stated that he would like to continue making the series, this time on the big screen.
