shareI am watching the movie right now and came to the board just to check and see if anyone else had caught that. It is of course possible for that to be the only way to get to the airfield given that they are in a valley.
The only way out of the valley might be to the north, so they would have to go north, get up to the higher ground, hit the road, which runs along the edge of the valley back to the south and to the airfield....But it still sounds awful wierd.
Yeah, that line always throws me too.
shareshe does say "follow the road" maybe is a more easy way to get there to avoid booby traps.

Sure, it's not like the roads are in a grid layout in the middle of the jungle. Even normal N-S roads can have stretches which run a few miles E-W to skirt some obstacle, while mountain or coast roads are changing direction all the time.
