How Long Before Turning it Off ?

Ok, i know i paid money for this but i lasted 5 minutes...and that was 2 minutes too long.

reply

i watched it all the way through, hoping it would get better...but it never did.
thank god i didn't pay money to see it, i would've demanded a refund.

reply

i made it 10 minutes, but was thinking about turning it off after the first 2 minutes! i love small budget movies but this was ridiculous!

reply

I got through about 15 minutes, but I only had it on for that long because it was a cold night and my bed was so warm. The second I heard the poor sound quality I wanted to turn it off.

reply

mine's playing now. But I'm on here wondering whether to go turn it off and watch something entertaining.

I really don't think pathetic idiots like her need celebrating on film.

reply

Ha-ha (no pun intended) - I'm doing the exact same thing.

Was wondering if it was actually going anywhere and was happy when someone knocked on the door and asked if I wanted to go grab a bite to eat.

reply

We were actively talking about turning it off after the first 90 seconds, but we actually watched an hour of it before pulling the plug. One of our party is a glutton for punishment.

What a piece of sh*t. I know they were going for verisimilitude, but who is this awkward in real life? It was WAY overdone.

reply

I'm doing the exact same thing right now, too. I think I've had it on for 10 minutes. The sound quality is horrible and the acting is, too. But worst is the script. Yes, these conversations happen in real life, but that doesn't mean it makes a good movie.

reply

I made it through the entire thing on a bet. What crap!

reply

i'm also watching it right now and debating on whether or not to turn it off. The dialogue is so effing banal.

reply

i actually like this movie, but there's no way i could sit down and just watch it (unless i was severely depressed or intoxicated or something). it's entertaining and somewhat interesting to watch when you're doing something else (like, for example, posting a comment on a messageboard).

reply

I liked the first third or so. It was just OK, nothing earth shattering, like many critics and fans have led us to believe. But after that 30 minutes, I started checking the time on the DVD every five minutes. It never goes anywhere, even as an "art film". It's really overrated, incredibly so.

reply

i've watched 7 minutes and 3 second and came here to read a review to see if had any promise, the review was quite good but now i am questioning it after reading this thread.
Everything seems awkward and improvised.
I hate the fact that "avant-garde" film makers think they have to make you cringe to make a good film these days.

reply

I almost shut it off about three minutes in, but I feel like a failure if I do that. I stuck with it and feel at least I can now speak about how not to make a movie.

reply

It's like Dada, but worse. Minimalism isn't even this bad.

reply

9 minutes for me (and I do like an indie movie). The quality of this is horrendous. The sound gave me headache - was it supposed to be artistic? Jaysus.

LMAO @ this thread!

My friend's girlfriend is into mumblecore movies. So she's been trying to get people she knows into mumblecore by having them watch the movies. Recently, I went over to her apt. where my friend, his girl, and her roommate were about to watch the movie. They asked, "Do you wanna see this?" After looking over the DVD cover, something in my stomach screamed, "For the love of God no! Don't watch that!" and I declined. I went into another room to surf the web.

I could hear them watching the movie cuz they were playing it really loud. Apparently, they were having trouble with the sound quality. Then, after 30 mins, the movie abruptly stopped. Then I could hear a bunch of mumbling for a few minutes before my friend's girl shouted, "I'm sorry okay!"

I peeked into the living room and it turns out they were berating her for choosing such a movie. She's a fan of mumblecore and she herself couldn't stand the movie. It really got on all three of their nerves.

Today, I was searching film reviews and the word "mumblecore" came up. I wondered, "What exactly is this movement everyone keeps talking about?" I read about it, found out this movie was the first movie that started the trend, and came to imdb to see the reviews. That's when I ended up reading this thread and burst out laughing. In fact, I was laughing just from reading the title: "How Long Before Turning it Off?" I can't believe this movie is so awful people wanted to turn it off after 2 minutes. I tried watching the 1 min 25 second trailer and turned it off after 40 seconds. I can't believe a movie so horrible spawned a movement. My sides are splitting from reading all the negative reviews about this movie.

My sig: why do almost all movies on imdb have a "worst movie ever!" thread?

reply

I like a bunch of mumblecore movies, but this was just terrible.

I'm proud to say I made it through the first 30 min, but then got fed up with yawning, so I fired up a chess program. I did leave the movie in the background, just in case that something, I don't know, happened. At one point I heard the main character ask her friend if he played chess. That was the highlight of my experience with this movie. I almost brought myself to bringing the sucker back to the foreground, but Black's queen on c4 held my attention. I ended up losing that game actually, and then during the second one I decided the annoying mumbling noise from the background was distracting me, so I killed the movie. I think that might have been about an hour into the movie.
