This was actually a pretty good movie for the Sci Fi channel. THe Alien and special effects were very realistic and the premis of the movie was somewhat believable accept for the Irish botanist/Doctor who sort of lost it like some bipolar moron.

True; I don't think any implication otherwise was intended. The character in the movie acted in a way both unstable and demonstrably stupid.
Overall, the movie went in a direction I didn't expect. I wish some things had been more clear.
