Yes it is a copy of the very popular and well done colombian series Francisco, el matematico.

Most likely a "remake".
Terrbile remake BTW.

The same was done with chilean TV mini-series "Bienvenida Realidad", re-maked as a light-empty-teen-soap-opera in Mexico.
