Understood thanks man :)
In effetc "yankee" is more general for northern americans.

U too mate!

reply

Well, northern Americans includes Mexicans and Canadians as both countries are located in northern America

Yankee refers to the north-eastern states of the USA, especially New England, although people in the south might also use it for example for people from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, etc. It does not include any southern state

There is a continent called North America. It contains the United States of America (America for short), Mexico, and Canada, all of which are countries.

When one refers to himself as an Iranian, Mexican, Frenchman, Italian, etc. He is referring to the country in which he resides, or formerly resided. If you referred to someone as an African it wouldn't tell you much. Africa is a continent with a very diverse group of countries.

Calling a Canadian an American because she lives in a country that (as everyone knows) is on the North American continent is the height of stupidity, and is only done by people who do not like America (which is a country on the North American continent). Northern America refers to the northern part of America, the country. Current political correctness demands that we refer to the people of China, Japan, and Korea as Asians. Actually, that is what was once called The Orient. Asia contains most of what we call the middle east, as well as India and most of Russia.

Get an education!!

If you're not from the Southeast or Southwest you are most likely going to be called "Yankee" by just about every southerner. It's not just limited to the Northeast as I and many southerners would consider someone from Oregon, Washington, Utah, Minnesota, the Dakotas, Indiana, etc a Yankee.

Just like how a lot of government high-ho's working in Washington actually live in Virginia (and around there). A lot of big wigs that work in New York City/Manhattan actually live in Connecticut. Lots of money and the people aren't all together in touch with anyone not like them. The stereotype is that Connecticut is this perfect place with wealthy inhabitants that live perfect lives inside of their own bubbles.

Thanks so much :)

If you lived in Connecticut (I have since December 1976) you would understand - and sadly nod your head in agreement.

reply

The stereotype of suburban Connecticut is that it's really clean-cut, "perfect" white people living happy, wealthy lives. It's mostly true.

reply

Ah, but you speak of the "Hollywood stereotype".

reply

I concur.

Ira Levin, who wrote the book, lived in Southwestern CT and based it on the town of New Canaan. It was filmed here also; (both films, I was actually at the remake filming in the rain at Lockwood Matthews).

And as someone who grew up in the neighboring town of Norwalk, CT - he wasn't far off from describing these women.
