I think mainly because it was a very small, low-profile movie, and it has been overshadowed by many other blockbusters that may not deserve the great compliments they get.

SUCH A GREAT MOVIE.

I honestly don't think it's such a great movie. I found a lot of the film not very believable and it's too ordinary for the most part - the story and some of the characters (preferably the side characters) are flat. And the fantasy stories / action sequences are too predictable and uninteresting, as for most of the rest of the film. It's mediocre at best. Most of you may disagree with me, seeing that this film actually has a pretty good rating (7.5), which is surprisingly higher than I expected to see. But for me, the only thing that saves this film (and is probably the main reason a lot of people like this movie) is the value in life lesson that it tells - which is no doubt very valuable! But apart from that, it is a very mediocre movie - if not poor. It is seriously not well-made, especially compared to so many great films that ARE out there - which are much more believable, moving and thought-provoking than this film. This film probably is moving and thought-provoking, but it is not done in a believable way IMO.

And btw, just about all of the films I've seen on the Top 250 are great and outstanding films, they definitely deserve their places on the list. I don't think this deserves to be on the list.

P.S. I just want fans to know, that I have nothing against this film. I'm just stating my opinion.

In my opinion, with the exception of the Lord of the Rings movies, Secondhand Lions is the best movie of the century so far. So simple, yet so remarkably entertaining, fun, deep.

I just saw this movie last night. Even the corny stuff had me laughing, and I loved the ending. If you want to see a movie that will make you laugh and make you feel good, this one is a winner. If you want a movie that you can pick apart and try to demonstrate your "higher intelligence" on the subject of movie making by tearing it down with negativity - this one is for you too. Guess this movie has it all . . .

I agree with you in that I don't think the movie is great, but I simply think the production was less than stellar. The story itself, in my opinion, does not have many holes nor absurdities. All in all, it is a very enjoyable story with a great theme of what should really be important in life.
Where you are missing the point is in that the parts of the movie that you found not believable are meant to be that way. They are tall tales being told to a kid who even questions their credibility himself. But what ties it all together is Hub's speech about believing what may or may not be true being important. I felt that Hub was basically telling that to every viewer and Walter at the same time.
Do I think it should be in IMDB's top 250? I'm not sure. However, when it comes down to my own personal TOP 20 most enjoyable movies of all time, it is definitely solidly entrenched in that list
