This movie is startlingly similar to a tv movie made in 1985 called "Surviving".
Does anybody out there remember seeing it? It starred Molly Ringwald and some guy I can't remember right now. I recall being so affected by it at the time because I was a depressed teen too. I am reading The Jodi Picoult book "The Pact" right now and thought wow, that sounds just like that movie I saw in high school (1985) but it couldn't be because the copyright for the book is 1997. So I thought I'd come here and investigate. There are some differences but not a lot......I feel like I'm in a time warp

They're worlds apart. In Surviving, both Molly Ringwald's character and Zach Galligan's character take their lives together.

The name of the film was "Surviving: A Family in Crisis". It was released on VHS back in the 80s under the title "Tragedy".

It starred Molly Ringwald and Zach Galligan. The only thing that I see different between the two films is that both teens commit suicide, and the two families didn't already have a strong inter-family bond and were not neighbors. Plus, "Surviving" wasn't a book. I don't think Jodi Picoult's novel really copies that film. Jodi puts much more detail into her story.
