Voices - Verne's done by Gary Shandling

Did anyone feel that it just didn't quite work as well as it could have?
I just felt that Gary just didn't cut it for the character. Personally it really frustrated me everytime Verne was screaming, e.g. when he was in the air. because it just didn't sound like a scream. it sounded like really really lazy person trying to impersonate a scream..

I know!!

I felt the exact same... I realize he is supposed to be this small, weak, over analyzing character..

But the scene when hes going to save Hammy from the girl scouts... I always make fun of the voice acting, just saying the lines as monotone as I can, cause guess what, they match up with his voice acting... I can't believe they finalized the movie with that in there!

"oh no.. we got to save hammmy.. *yawn* we're coming..."

Thank god! I thought it was just me!
it kinda spoiled the movie for me to be honest.. shame really.

I agree completely. I thought most of the other voice work in the film was pretty good, but every time Gary Shandling had to act excited or scared, it just sounded like a guy in a studio who was too embarrassed to put some oompf behind the character. It just wasn't genuine. Why the directors didn't push him to do better is beyond me.

To be honest, given the film makers huge compulsion to have a celebrity voice every single member of the cast, I'm surprised it all worked out as well as it did (Avril Lavigne as Heather? How did that end up being so perfect? The concept on its own just screams "pointlessly inserted Teen idol" but it just works.)

Funnily enough that reminds of an actor who early in his career was dubbed "the male Fay Wray" for his screaming abilities. That actor? William Shatner.

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.
