So an innocent man is murdered and nobody cares?

Amazing. The town depicted in this movie was ruled by Nazi-style people. The alpha macho is the king and weak people have no other choice than die. Very depressing.

No, the ending clearly says that Sean is goin after Jimmy. During the parade, we see Celeste wandering around, clearly in emotional distress. She see's Sean. Sean then looks accross the street at Jimmy and the whole Jimmy finger-gun and Sean shrug scene occurs. Celeste is Sean's key to Jimmy.

Whether or not Sean can prove anything or not is left to the viewer.

reply

Basically, yes. Sean's gesture to Jimmy says "I know what you did." It's equally clear from Jimmy's smug reaction that Sean won't do much about it, and even if he tried, there isn't the evidence there (or anyone willing to talk) that would let him do much about it. That's just how it goes in certain neighborhoods, whether it's south Boston, east LA, or inner city Detroit.

I think Jimmy will eventually be killed and it will be done by Dave's son. It's cosmic. Jimmy killed Harris. Harris's son helps in the killing of Katie. Jimmy kills Dave so Michael will kill Jimmy.

Dave was a shell of his former shell. A vampire, as he described. No matter now many times eh tries to chase the past away, no matter it will come back to haunt him. He'd already died in that car.. Maybe he was too dangerous to live freely in society, as him killing the molester showed. (Not that it was a bad act by itself, but he didn't need to kill the guy). Maybe Jimmy did him everyone else a huge favor by killing him, in true Of Mice and Men fashion.

As far as Sean's gun-like gesture at the end of the film, the way I see it is "I'm watching you, so don't you dare doing any more stupid thing, or else I'll get you."

reply

Dave is too dangerous to live in this world because he killed a child molestor in the act. But Jimmy killing 2 people, one for ratting on him and another an innocent man, is ok?

reply

I agree with Vicky. The guy you responded to has flawed hypocritical logic.

You nailed it the first time right off OP...

reply

Dave wasn't innocent; he was a child molester and a murderer. Dave killed the other pedophile because he hated that part of himself.

reply

I've seen this movie twice now....the second time last night. Where in the movie does it mention that Dave is a child molester? He KILLED a child molester, but nothing was shown or discussed that he was one.

reply

What the *beep* are you talking about? Did you even watch the movie?

reply

Yeah, he's bringing book-Dave into it, but I don't think you can assume movie-Dave has all of the same feelings and motivations as book-Dave.

In the movie, he kills the pedophile because he identifies with the victim--it's about a sort of revenge, anger against sexual abusers, and wanting to defend the victim. His own sexuality doesn't seem to be part of it.

In the book, Dave himself is also attracted to boys. The motive for his attack on the pedophile is a little more complicated, because in that act he is also hoping to destroy his own sexual feelings about boys. He has ongoing concern about where his own behavior might develop if he couldn't put a stop to those feelings, and whether he might eventually act on them.

Ah I see, thank you

The movie came across as very well-made to me, but yes...the ending was horrifying in it's seemingly mundane nature (given what had occurred).
