more movies like this one?

I would like to see some, any recommendations?

Hunting and killing babies doesn't seem to be my specialty.

If you liked this movie, you might like "The Devil's Backbone." If I had a theater, I'd show the two in a double feature.

It's called "Fortress". It's a really good movie. It's much more fast paced. I think Io Non Ho Paura is much better.

Weird. I just recommended the two films to another poster for foreign horror/weirdness...

And "Pan's Labyrinth" of course.

Pan's LAb is same sort of catergory but I didn't really like it. But as always, I suggest you see it for yourself, your tastes are different than mine.
Nobody notices the sober Indians. On tv the drunk Indians emote In books drunk Indians philosophize

Pan's lab is not only different, it's also better and more morbid.

Try "Heaven" with Giovanni Ribisi and Cate Blanchette. Director is Tom Twyker who has done some other spectacular films.

I just watched this film and found it very reminiscent of a film called "Respiro" by Emanuele Crialese. The latter also talks about a young boy growing up/coming of age in a Mediterranean village, albeit on one of the Italian islands. There is even a cave subplot going on, although I don't want to spoil it for you, so let me shut up here :)

Well, I don't know that it's extremely like this one, but you might enjoy the Korean "A Tale of Two Sisters." It's mostly a psychological thriller but has more horror elements. Warning -- don't read ANY spoilers about the movie beforehand. Instead, watch it, then read up about it on its IMDb board, then watch it again.

The film "La Corsa del l'innocente" (Flight of the Innocent) deals with a similar theme: A south-italian clan kidnaps a rich child from the North of Italy. The story also focusses on the son of the kidnapers, but generally the plot is a different one.

I was recommended a japanese movie called Nobody Knows and really enjoyed it; one sad movie.

All these posts and NOT ONE PERSON has mentioned Spirit of the Beehive? Shame on you IMDB.

Paperhouse is another great one in the coming of age childhood horror kinda genre.
