This lovely little movie was made for children.....not cynical adolescents, or burned out hard hearted young adults. This movie may not be cinematogaphically perfect, or directed by by Mr. Spielberg, or had Mr. Disney's hand in it.....however, it had a good loving sentiment included which will touch the hearts of young children, and people who do love dogs and have dogs as pets that love and guard them. If the human heart were as pure as the canus domesticus heart, the world would be a better place!! Don't become so cold and so "cool" that tender affection no longer stirs you!

I would agree, except for the apparently irresistable urge for filmakers to advance the homosexual agenda (there is an apparently gay couple in this film who are the joint owners of one of the dogs). I thought this was an irresponsible and deliberate detail that should have been deleted. Marketing this as a children's film, with this propagandistic content, was deceitful.

Just who was this aparent to? Do you think that a kid going to see this film is going to make such an assertian? Is a child suddenly going to become gay if they see this? Are these people actually using this movie to promote some sort of sexual agenda?

What a stupid load of rubbish.

no. You need to read what he said. He's not opposed to homosexuality in a children's film, he's opposed to using it for propogandistic effect. Naturally you comment only on a few lines in his post that you can actually argue with.

reply

I think this is one case where intent can't really be the basis of argument, because in some way or another, all media is propagandistic.

reply

>>Just who was this aparent to? <<

Me.

>>Do you think that a kid going to see this film is going to make such an assertian? <<

No.

>>Is a child suddenly going to become gay if they see this? <<

No. But I think the folks in Hollywood would love to see these kids grow up thinking sodomy is normal. I think most of these folks threw away their moral compasses a long time ago.

>>Are these people actually using this movie to promote some sort of sexual agenda? <<

Yes. This was a deliberate choice. They could have scripted this fantasy any way they wanted. If you think these things are not discussed -- plotted, literally! -- in Hollywood, you're dreaming.

At some age it becomes appropriate for kids to enter into the debate over homosexuality. I doubt that that corresponds to the 5~9-year-old age group targeted by these filmmakers. I don't think it's appropriate to propagandize kids about non-normative behavior. Period.

What a bunch of right-wing, fearful, reactionary jackasses.

God FORBID that kids with same-sex parents should see people like their own families in the movies. The horror!

It's not the film-maker's responsibilty to teach children about sexuality - it's the parents responsibility. I don't see why film-makers need to bring up that stuff when it's a kid's movie. Parents deserve the right to teach their kids about sexuality, I don't see why the film-makers need to step in and add that into a kid's movie about dogs!

The film-makers said nothing about the sexual orientation of Wilson's owners. Yes they were probably supposed to be homosexual, but that was never turned into a storyline for the few minutes of film they had. For all we know they were friends sharing rent.

but then again, a lot of kids copy what they see in movies or on TV.

You are so right. I saw lesbians in a movie once. I had oral sex with my best friend 4 years later. That had to have done it for me!

Gentlemen, we're in luck. Those aliens speak American!

And when I mentioned about kid's copying what they see on tv, that is true. I'm not saying that if they see gay people on tv, then they are going to be gay. I'm saying that if movies uses ways to enforce views on kids, then they will probably grow up believing what they see in movies instead of making their own decisions for themselves. Use this as an example...50 cent...how many white kids do you see walking around now with gangsta clothes and saying "what's up my homie" thinking that they are all gangsta. And if kids hear swearing on tv, a lot of them repeat the words they hear even if they don't know that it's wrong to say. You're reply was just rediculous. If you read my comments properly you would know that I already said "I don't think a kid is suddenly going to become gay just by watching this movie too" - did you read it this time? When I said that kids copy what they see on TV, I was talking about things in general, like attitudes, behaviour, swearing, etc. Before I said that I alread said (quote): "I don't think a kid is suddenly going to become gay just by watching this movie too" - you should have read that both sentences so it made sense to you

I really do understand what you are getting at to a point. IMO I do feel it is a small thing and I like to say don't sweat the small things, but I do understand your point.

Maybe they should have made the mum characters in this movie exotic dancers too

With this though I have to wonder who you are? I haven't posted that on this board and I haven't seen you on any of the other boards I post on.

Gentlemen, we're in luck. Those aliens speak American!

Can you say "Hipocrit"? Just get off your high horse. How is it that you can turn such a fun, loving and beautiful movie as this into something dark and sinister? So what if there is a gay couple in the film? Children are bound to come across just this situation sooner or later in their lives and I would hope that the could be accepting and friendly with that couple if the couple were nice people. Like I said in an earlier reply, we are not here to judge others. Take a better look at your own house and make sure it is in order.

reply

I was 15 when i saw this movie and i absolutely loved it. The dogs were cute, the actors were good and it made a good point. ok it was a tad cheesy at times but its a family comedy so its bound to be!!!

To your comments on the homosexual couple. I saw no problem with them being in the movie. The point the writers made by having so many different types of families ( white, black, a lonely single old man, a single women and a homosexual couple) for each dog, in my opinion, was to show that their dogs would love them no matter what and held no prejudice against them.
And i don't think they used the homosexuality as propaganda but, i think you are makin too much out of this.

reply

I saw this movie with my two young grandsons...........ages 5 and 7........and believe me, neither did they, nor did I, catch the allusion to homosexuality with the two men who owned one of the dogs in the movie. If it was the agenda of the film makers to propagandize homosexuality in this movie, they surely picked a wrong movie, because the childrern were just too charmed and happy to see the antics of the dogs to notice anything much about the adults. The kids loved the dogs and the little boy and his friend and they booed the bad boys who bothered the little boy.........this is what they relate to...........they definitely do not relate to homosexuality!! At the target age level of this film, children definitely do not even know what homosexuality is!! Therefore, it must be very difficult to make a statement to an audience who has no idea what your statement is about!!!! It was a cute little movie.......if you like dogs, if you like kids..............it was cute!! made the little ones (and some of their older family members) laugh and have a good time.

reply

lady, take your meds and shut your mouth. this movie sucks, it is overly sentimental trying to squeeze the tears out of people. i seen one of the trailers "your a good boy" then the dog says "so are you" to the kid. that is absolutely the most stupid sappy lines i have ever heard. i hope this script dies. also, my girlfriend made me go see this movie with her and her brother(you know you gotta go if you want to get the pooty tang l8r), those two men were definitly GAY, even though you werent told about it. it is just like sebastian and antonio in twelfth night, your not told their gay, but you know they are.

Mr. Trathus, I really sympathize with you that were coerced and forced to see this little, innocent, children's movie! Girlfriends at times demand too much, and I believe this was the case in your situation. No wonder you were in a frustrated and bad mood when you saw the picture!! I can understand this. I hope in the future, you and your girlfriend could have more meaningful conversations and realize that it is not correct to force and coerce anyone to attend a performance of any kind that they think they would not like!! Better luck to you in the future!! However, I was not coerced or forced, loved the movie, take absolutely no meds ( I have no need of medications, thank God), and very rarely "shut my mouth" when I feel I have something to say!! Take care!

That's why it's especially troubling that these filmmakers chose to make this plot point. What other explanation is there, than that they wanted to create an impression in young minds that this behavior is normal? Do you honestly think they inserted the gay couple into the movie without deliberation?

Yes, becaause we all know how wrong and immoral homosexuality is.

I just got done watching this movie. It's not bad. It's not great either, but it sure was enjoyable, and I'll happily watch it again.

To a couple points that have been made in this thread besides the allegation that it's a bad movie:

It's obvious dog owners who have any sort of relationship with their animals see the universal questions. "What is my dog thinking?" "What would he say if he could talk" It shows the well known truth that all dogs have different persoalities. The play dead scene alone is worth it, just to see the training that they went through.

I sat watching the movie with my three dogs and they had the expected response - they got on their respective soft pieces of furniture and went to sleep. All they cared about was being with me. That's all this movie is about, enjoying each other, and all it should be about. There are a lot of other artistic, thought provoking, high explosive movies. Go watch those.

Now, that we're done talking aboug the merits of the movie. Other points were foisted upon the discussion by people who wish to drag forth their heterosexual agenda. There was one person missing when I watched this movie, my white partner of 16 years. I point that out because others seem to feel compelled to try & make me feel like less of a human being or at least a misbehaving, immoral sodomite. At one point in America based on societal norms, we'd have had rocks thrown at us or been lynched even if we were two heterorsexual people walking down the street. Since people seem to be culturally unaware of the real and obviously most secret homosexual agenda, I will explain it in simple terms.

I am a person and I will not let you forget that. I like seeing others of my culture properly portrayed in film and on TV. That is a tradition of self-respect that has been carried forward by blacks, latinos and other minorities. I'm sure it was a matter of debate to put a homosexual couple in the movie. It shouldn't have been. I our agenda involves getting up for work every day, feeding our famililies, dreaming of the same tax benefits, inheritance protections and vistitation rights our straight counterparts have and walking our dogs and being with our loved ones.

That wasn't hard, was it?

As for this particular couple in the film, they were just two guys living together. You make up what you want to. I'm sure that it's clear that Janet and Crissy were lesbians in Three's Company if you only see them for 3 minutes on screen. Yes, I had the same take, they're gay. My better-half's sister's kids have had me around since they were little. They're all out of high school or beyond now. We never talked about our relationship around them. We were just there, but I'm sure the quiet assumption has been made. They haven't turned out to be gay. They just love us like anyone else in the family. Being exposed to homosexuality didn't change their ability to love, just their ability to hate.

Anyone who thinks that is pushing a homosexual agenda obviously has too much time on their hands. I laud the film makers for putting this couple in there and just letting be like every other gay couple with dogs. We care about our dogs, have relationships and friendships with other people. Also, we can interact with young boys without trying to nab them. We don't get a toaster if we recruit 7-10 year olds (unless you're in NAMBLA)

For everyone's interest:
in·sid·i·ous ( P ) Pronunciation Key (n-sd-s)
adj.
Working or spreading harmfully in a subtle or stealthy manner: insidious rumors; an insidious disease.
Intended to entrap; treacherous: insidious misinformation.
Beguiling but harmful; alluring: insidious pleasures.
[From Latin nsidisus, from nsidiae, ambush, from nsidre, to sit upon, lie in wait for : in-, in, on; see in-2 + sedre, to sit; see sed- in Indo-European Roots.]

Lastly, sodomy is practiced by heterosexuals too, and even though it's illegal in many states, I don't hear about cops busting in to straight households to enforce these needed laws. We need to define what we mean when we say "non-normative" behavior. On what basis are we defining "normal". Is it based on percentage of the population? Then being black is abnormal. Are we basing it on mental defect? The medical community has decided that homosexuality is not a mental defect and have proven it is genetically programmed in our DNA. I am not denying that some people choose to have sex with the same gender, but they are not gay, they play. If normal is defined as not like the attitudes that spawned this fear & hate, clearly that's a good thing!

The idea of this movie forwarding a homosexual agenda is ludicrous. The idea that this movie is bad is equally so. Dogs that can't speak make more sense than the words I've read on this page.

... so there was no 'precedent' being set, here... They're not martians. Showing a martian walking down an otherwise "normal" street is being 'dishonest'; 'Homosexuality' is merely a REALITY, pal... !

When you don't see her for ages, you think no-one's THAT beautiful. She is.

There is nothing in this movie that mentions Wilson's owners being gay....they could be just ROOMMATES. People do do this still without a relationship other than FRIENDSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!

this movie may be disgusting, but what is more disgusting is ur racism. i happen to know the person who played connie. she's mulata and she's not at all bad.

reply

If you notice, each of the "earth dogs" were owned by different familes. One was owned by a man by himself, one by a woman by herself, one by a mom dad and little girl, and one by the gay couple. I think twhat they were trying to show was that no matter what the make-up of a "family" is, the dogs were important to them all.

And it really wasn't propoganda, they were only on screen for about a total of 3 minutes. Hardly enough time to push any kind of agenda.

reply

I believe the bible says "judge not lest ye be judge" and "Love thy neighbor as thy self" Sounds like you don't like yourself much if you have to put your own agenda forward like this. This world would be a much better place if we were accepting of each other they way were are.

This movie is truly touching. It shows how loving movies can be. I think we need more movies like this, and less of the Terminator, or what ever the latest violent movie that has come out. All those movies do is to teach anger, pain, violence, and that guns can change everything. All they have done is teach people to hate.

Now I know why I don't like to read message boards, people are so negative.

It's a little cheezy, but it was kinda made for younger kids. I still think it was really good, and Liam Aiken being in it just made it even better. Cuz he's really hot!

U Go cowlover - I am 49 going on 50, look after foster kids of all ages and have seen plenty of cynical kids who think if "it aint BAD - it's no good".

I loved this movie and it surpised me how good the script and special effects were. OK it was a kids movie but us grown ups could appreciate the (sometimes toilet) humour etc.

As for those who want to deny homosexuality exists (and black people) and they were represented in this movie - please feel free to discuss this issue in your church but do not impose your views on my viewing freedom or the right of filmakers to represent society as it really is!!

My 18 month old son loved it, so I don't think it was anything other than entertaining for children.

As far as the homosexual agenda goes, it had nothing to do with propaganda. It was about representing family units...something all children can identify with. Some kids have a typical nuclear family, some have a single parent, some live with grandparents, and some have gay parents. That's not propaganda, that's just a slice of life, whether YOU like it or not. Period.
