a good idea fairly badly carried out.

The idea of this film is good, use a fictionalised version of the Cambridge Spy Ring story to explore the idea of love and honesty.
If you loved someone and they said they used to be a spy for a country which was an enemy of your country.
The film is fairly low budget with locations in Malta playing Beirut amd Montreal playing New York,Washington and bits of London (I think.)

The acting is ok but the script does not draw you into the story,if you don't know about the real events the film is baed on you might why it matters that he was a spy.

In the real world the man Stone is married too is Kim Philiby a former star of the British Secret Intelligence Service MI6,the 2 spies who fled Britain before being arrested were his old friends Burgess and Mclean.

The film ANOTHER COUNTRY (by the same director?)covers the origins of the Cambridge Spies but it gets too excited about the gay angle for my liking, the best version of this story is the BBC mini series CAMBRIDGE SPIES which is better than this film in every way.

This is not an awful film but it could have been a lot better,I take it it was a tv movie?
