Beaten by the Old Man

Do you think that really happened?
Where he confessed to murdering the old mans son, then the old man beats him with a stick?
It seems like this was made up for the movie,its just too strange. He couldve been killed doing something like that.

Overall,I thought it was good,but very stylistic and artsy,and boring in spots. Not enough of a explanation of whats going on,just scenes attached to each other,kind of surreal.Also,the south african accent was not always easy to understand.

tom Jane did an interview and said they/he did a LOT of research and tried to stick as close to the truth as possible, though, he didnt mention it specificaly

I think that was the point, that he could have gotten himself killed.

Whenever it gets to be too much for him, Stander trys to commit suicide by pissing off a black guy.

The reason he went looking for the old man was because he was feeling depressed over being alone, thinking about what led him to be so miserable, and realizing it started with killing that young protestor during the riot.

He does the same thing at the end, forcing the black cop to shoot him dead. He just couldn't take it anymore.

The whole point of the film of Stander is the way Stander felt about his life. Stander didn't understand what his objective of life was. He didn't know why he was there or what he was destined to do, much like all of us. So he would just do things randomly and try to have some fun with it to take his mind off of the pain of not knowing why. When he gets into fights or, as in this case, gets beaten by the pissed off father it is because he feels pain and wants to feel something more straight foward. He wants to feel that way because someone makes him feel it not because he feels it anyway. He wants it to be over so he doesn't have to struggle anymore. He would do what he wanted. Push the bounds as far as they could go and if he got killed so be it and if he didn't no big deal another day to do it all over again until one day he would finally die.

Just my interpretation though.
