Boring From Start to Finish

Project Greenlight seems to have a real flair for encouraging some of the worst possible screenwriting. I've seen other scripts from the series, and have been completely unimpressed every time. This one is cryptic, rambling, incoherent and dull. Don't get me wrong, I love David Strathairn (the only reason I bothered with this one), but even he couldn't save the show. Strathairn fans are better off with his next film, Blue Car and with Limbo.

I basically chanced upon this film because I'm a huge fan of David Strathairn's work and I was glad to see him in a role with so much screen time. The movie is clearly not for everyone -- the plot is subtle and is more of a character study than anything else. It focuses on real-life interactions between some very different people and demonstrates how normal people cope with life's curve balls. It paints a picture of average people dealing with average problems.

I thought the script was very clever, sprinkled with some nicely crafted sarcasm. It didn't glorify any one character, present anything resembling a major crisis, nor did it take us on a wild journey with a definitive end. But it was true to life and I found that very comforting.

It was bland and rather empty. Bad tv movie level stuff. I didn't care about any of the characters. Nicky Katt's character seemed and looked like someone who was about to snap and kill somebody but he never did. The psychiatrist character was also a creepy character but he also never did anything. And what was with that ending and the coins? Were they stolen? Weird.
