The violence is off-camera, for the most part, and much more is implied than shown sexually, as well. I'd guess, though, that, due to the fact that there's nudity, and pubic hair is shown several times, that our rather paternalistic MPAA would assign this an NC-17.

Just seen this on Aust. "free-to-air" TV on government owned station. Consumer advisory rating was MA15 i.e. not suitable for under 15's. Don't know why as no on-screen violence & horror, & no actual sexual content. Only doctor's hand resting against unconscious patient's vulva (not Brazilianed). Our TV stations have developed a nasty habit of overclassifying films & TV programmes. They work on the theory that if you offer an audience MA (sex, violence, horror, nudity etc.), even if the film is Mary Poppins, you are more likely to attract the audience than if you classify it M "for mature audiences"( e.g. character swears when foot run over by car). I have been duped too many times into watching bland nonsense that wouldn't offend the Pope, waiting for the "good bits".

Australia has always been uptight about nudity. It's been a while since I saw this film but I can remember there was full frontal female nudity a number of times. There was also a doctor who is seen fingering a female patient on screen. I'd say it would be a strong R.
