Special Effects

Almost thirteen years later, I am re-watching this movie in HD, and have to say, I am almost astounded at how the special effects and CGI have stood up. The moving from flesh-and-blood bodies to skeletons and back again is totally seamless and on some levels mesmerizing.

I think it's better than a lot of movies that have been released in the decade and change since it's initial release.

I just got done watching the movie I have to agree with you. The sword fighting was a lot weaker than I remembered, but the effects were spot on. You actually believed each "skeleton" version was the real version of the pirate.

True. I laughed once, when I saw an officer fighting thin air in the background while the undead pirates sneak and overrun the Dauntless at night. he was hacking and slashing in all directions, but I think they skipped adding a CGI skeleton pirate foe for him later, saying: no one will notice. I think it was during a close up scene showing the glass-eyed pirate or something like that.
