This is one of the most pointless stories I've ever seen on film. Is it a story about mental illness? Is it a dark comedy about the single life? Is it a drama about compromising when it comes to love? Did everything take place in Melanie's imagination? I didn't laugh, I didn't feel sad, I wasn't in suspense. I was just bored. So many things made no sense at all. Except for the breathtaking scenery, a complete waste of time. When it comes to films, I don't enjoy guessing what the writer was trying to say because, unless you know the film maker personally, you never know the answer. And I think a film maker who thinks an audience wants to be kept in the dark to figure it out on their own is an egomaniac. I have better things to do with my time.
lol I so agree with you on that comment.. if you that person didn't like or even "get" the movie.. he's more of a action/tittie man flick.. God help us if there are more people like him then us!
Exactly. Though I have to admit that I do like Dude, where's my car! But still, the comments that guy made were idiotic. Must be a real control freak if he has to know EVERYTHING in a movie.
You need to look up another definition for rude because that one is my complete opposite. And I'm not proud to be rude, though I enjoy it. But I'm thinking you're the one who's without education or culture if you don't know how to appreciate a movie like that.
I'm just so glad someone else really loves this movie too.. :) It is my fav movie and I wish more of my friends and my bf would watch it, but they probably wont :(
Enjoying being rude IS uncultured and uneducated - it reflects a lack of awareness of the necessity for politeness and consideration in a peaceful decent society.
And it ruins the communication and civility that are necessary for a board like this to operate without degenerating into insults and chaos.
"This is one of the most pointless stories I've ever seen on film" - would generally indicate you didn't like the movie. Clearly you simply did not understand it, thus go on the attack and make people wonder if you shouldn't stick to Twilight and it's ilk.
Perhaps you need to be kiwi to get where this one is coming from. Dunno?
The movie changes direction, genre, and yes character sympathy to match the developing dynamics. It's quite a startling piece of writing imho.
Who presumed that? All I see you being referred to as is "person".
I'm a woman too, and I'm enjoying the movie right now actually. But to stay on point? You still sound like you'd be more comfortable with Dude Where's My Car, LOL
Hey, well What Jax said was so Silly , i mean really why waste everybodys time by telling us you are essentially a twerp with no brain, I think Dude Wheres my Car is to high brow for you, seriously
I'm sorry "nice little pussy" but it was NOT filmed on the west coast of New Zealand, but around Blenheim and the Marlborough sounds which is on the Northern tip of the South Island, I would recommend you have a holiday there it is absolutely beautiful, so that means that you are NOT A Kiwi(ENZEDER)or you don't know New Zealand.
Didn't like it too much... some people could argue that the psychological part is interesting, but I didn't feel/understand the conflicts or motivations of the characters. They seem complex yet shallow (we don't know anything about their past, it seems everything is just thrown more or less surprisingly in the face of the viewer). I prefer when there's more of an emotional/psychological build up before I see surprises... This was too often about concrete behavior, at least that's how I experienced it. And the way it was, the movie didn't trigger any emotions in me. I usually like strange, dark or ambiguous movies (I'm a big Lynch fan), but this was too much (or too little) for me. I thought the scenery and the acting were quite good though.
I know all fans of the movie will hate me and want to cut off my balls, but let me recommend a somewhat similar movie that some of you might enjoy: it's called "Sous le sable" (French movie), and it deals with some of the same issues (denial of the death of a loved one), with a relatively slow paced storyline and a haunting feel. So let's make a deal here: hate me first, then go rent "Sous le sable". Don't worry, it's not an American action flick (althought Tarantino kicks some serious ass).
OMG... ok im actually watching the movie on tv atm.. and i SERIOUSLY dont get it. Why one moment he is in the freezer dead.. and the next his dancing with her or in bed with her??? Is this all of her imagination?
HAHAH yeah im in AUST. it just finished.. i didnt really sit through the whole movie though because the whole time i was like 'What the HELL is she doing!!!'
I would really like to understand it though since a lot of people on here have said its a good movie. -_- but then again.. im actually really bad at working out twisted movies.. i always need someone to explain it to me =D
Just watched the movie last night and I loved it. The two leads were great in their roles and like the review in a tv guide said the movie was original. The story is complex especially after the kidnapper suddenly becomes the vulnerable one. The movie is definitely surreal in many ways.
It's such a wonderful film - I've seen it three times now (it just finished playing on New Zealand's chan one on television). The scenery from the west coast is stunning and so unique.
If you enjoyed Perfect Strangers then you'll love Heavenly Creatures by Peter Jackson.
this movie is complete tripe. i've seen people listing why they didn't like it, and i agree completely so i will not expound on the reasons. but i have seen no reasons why people LIKED it. pray tell what made this remotely watchable
