TR3 IDEA: New Plot, New Talent...

If ever they were to make a third one, then I think they should move away from the whole guns-blazing action style back to a feel more in line with the old games. Here's my idea if I was put in charge of the next TR movie:

Plot.
With a main storyline set around Lara going to Cambodia to investigate an old dig site where her father, Richard Croft, died, the action cuts between this main storyline and two others. The first (which would include a film-version of the opening sequence of Tomb Raider: Legend) would be set around Lara's childhood at the age of about 9, and follows her relationship with her mother and her growing interest in archaeology, probably pressed upon her by her father. The second storyline would be when Lara is at the age of 18, and would instead follow her father's decline in reputation and include an emotional scene where she is told about her father's death. The film would still have a couple of fight scenes for good measure and the end would show her finding something in Cambodia like her father's diary. The whole film would be a sort of prequel to the game Tomb Raider: Anniversary and would have a title like Tomb Raider: Beginnings...or something.

Talent
Seeing as Angelina Jolie won't be making a third one, which is probably a good thing considering the somewhat different plot, a whole new cast would be in order. First off, Lara. My first choice would be the little-known actress Jennifer Bidall (from UK soap opera Hollyoaks): she's British, has a great body, and I think looks a hell of a lot like the new-look Lara. I haven't thought about who could play her at ages 9 and 18.
Kristin Scott Thomas would be a candidate for Amelia Croft (Lara's mother), and perhaps Adrian Rawlins (James Potter from the Harry Potter films) as Richard Croft. For Winston you could have Michael Byrne.

The film would take a much more psychological side and also delve deeper into the, ahem, new continuity of the games. Suggestions welcome.

I'm just following the crowd. They're carrying me, mainly.

I like it!

There's more story behind Lara shown on the big screen if this were to be made.

I wish the crew/makers/spielberg made the Tomb Raider movies, they'll be just like Indy Jones!!

They could be better made and a little deeper, but I cannot stand the new "continuity" and would reject such a movie.

As for Lara, I'm still hoping out for a younger Keira Knightley film, but we know that will never happen, so I'll go ahead and put my vote in for an unknown British actress. Enough with the Americans doing accents.
