Plot Hole? (Spoilers)

Ok. So, he's dead and no matter how many times he tries to fix things, it is useless. He's in his own personal hell, or purgatory, or whatever. Right???

BUT I DON'T THINK that everything that just doesn't fit the plot can be justified on the fact that the movie takes place in Simon's imagination, so everything's confusing.

Here's a plot hole (at least I think so): Peter walks in on Simon and Clair making out when it's dark. It is night when he falls and when Clair storms out in her car. And it is night when Simon gets his brother in the car and drives to the cliff. HOWEVER, when he gets to the cliff, the sun is rising. So when the couple arrive in the truck and Simon has to go the other way around, there's daylight already. So the car accident should happen early that morning.
But in the end, as Simon faces the truth, and everytime the car crash is actuallt shown, it is night and it is raining.

My question is:
* Is the house really sooo far from the hospital that they would have driven all thru the day to have the accident later that night, thus dying at 8pm???
* Did Simon ever really tried the cliff or is this part all made up by his mind in order to feel more and more guilty?

You know, this move really had potential to be a great one... But the pieces just don't match at the end. Somebody here on the message boards defined it well: it looks unfinished.

May the TRUTH be OUT THERE.

I dunno maybe He took longer the first time? I think It was just Simon's mind thinking off all the different ways it could have played out but regardless its going to have the same outcome. Maybe I missed your point but I hope i helped.

i see it as kind of like groundhog day combined with the usual suspects. the dood gets stuck in his hellacious loop, where even some of the characters (his brother, claire) are aware of it before he realises it each and every iteration. and the delusions he used to make it are what he was hearing and seeing as he died, ala the usual suspects.

I think that scene is actually shot in the moonlight and not the sun rising in the morning,If im not mistaken there is no shot of the sun rising, yes it is lighter than at the house, but it is often the case that it is brighter near the sea at night (the refletion off the water)but who knows. The problem with this movie is that because there are so many loose ends everyone tends to over analyse every small detail ( even myself) In any other movie a genuine mistake like this would not even be noticed. So who knows if this is a clue or not.
