Dickie is still an actor when he's recreating his childhood - he's using it it help him 'get into character'.
He did marry Grace, and his family did get into movie production at the end.
He IS trying to re-live his childhood (a childhood he never had), but he not doing it so he DOES get the part, he's doing it to HELP him GET the part.
I have no idea on the 4th question, however, i would say it's not, but is heavily inspired by real stories from former child stars (hence the final credit montage/song)
