her eyes?

Does anyone know what colour of eyes the real Sylvia had?

reply

I think they were brown..but I cannot be certain all the pictures I have saw of Sylvia were in black and white.

reply

Having read the Bell Jar, and seen a bunch of pictures, I believe they were brown.

Sylvia did have brown eyes, and the poster of blue-eyed Gwyneth Paltrow annoys me. I'm kind of a nitpicker, though.

just rewatched the movie on dvd, seems like her eyes are brown in all but one scene where she's bathing the baby in the sink and looks at ted and they look green, or fairer...not sure if they used digital imaging to make them brown (or why they were blue on the poster)

In one movie poster they're blue, on the dvd cover, they're brown. i watched it on dvd and they were brown, On Demand, they were blue. perhaps they digitally remastered the color for the dvd.

They were yellow, like Lucifer. Just Kidding. I also believe the actual Sylvia had brown. I didn't notice in the movie though.

Sylvia Plath actually did have brown eyes. When I saw this film in the theatre, Paltrow's eyes always looked blue or greenish, definitely not brown. Maybe this is something they changed later on. This annoyed me about the movie. Among many things. I don't think Gwyneth Paltrow looked or sounded anything like Sylvia Plath. Plath's real accent was actually closer to the accents of the guys on This Old House than Paltrow's.

I think Paltrow was almost spot-on with the voice. The accent is pretty hard to pull off. It's a Mid-Atlantic accent, sort of a mix between American and English, and it doesn't occur naturally so it's pretty hard to nail perfectly.
