Can not STAND Gwyneth Paltrow in this film

Her speech, her lisp, her DISGUSTING nasally voice and her insipid, engulphed rrrr's are so unbelievably annoying. It's strange....I really like the film, but DESPISE Paltrow in it. She has the ugliest voice snd the UGLIEST manner of speaking. I wish that they had cast someone else....anyone else.

And her supposed Irish brogue in quoting Chaucer while streaming down with Ted in the canoe....ARGH!!!!!!!!! The epitome of over-the-top LOUSY, IRRITATING "acting".

For me, it's how flat she is. We are supposed to believe that she was engulfed with passion. Uh huh. Daniel Craig, on the other hand, is all tapped down eros that oozes out. Perfection.

"I'd never ask you to trust me. It's the cry of a guilty soul."

reply

Well, have you ever heard recordings of Sylvia? It's not too far off.

When she is reciting Chaucer on the gondola, it is not in an Irish brogue. She is reciting the piece in the original Middle English. Not the most accurate rendition, but, close.

Do try to think before you speak.

Wow so many people hate her on here!

I know, it's ridiculous. For myself, this was one of those movies that I just happen to see on cable on a bored overcast afternoon and couldn't move until it was over.

If you remove the bias, both Paltrow and Craig were excellent in their roles and the film was well worth watching.

Films like these are the reason I pay for cable, for little gems like these are usually lost in the rubble of the crap.

Well, I'm sorry to agree with such a sentiment, but I do!

It so happens that my favorite part of a person is the way they speak a lot of times. So, it's particularly difficult for me to enjoy a film, when I can't stand the way the lead players say their lines!

Speaking of casting someone else, I was thinking the whole time I watched it that I wished they had cast someone else, and in fact how I thought Kate Blanchet would've been good in the role -- because she has a similar look about her, except she's more elegant, and she *sounds* much prettier.

But, it's not just that, unfortunately... I also don't like little things about the way she looks, such as her earlobes and the way her nose turns up.

It's funny, because overall, she's a very elegant beauty. But, after looking at her for a while, it seems like she's an overgrown little girl -- she has none of the elegant but I love in beautiful women, instead she just looks like a weak child.

Again, I hate to say these things, but since you brought up the subject of being annoyed with Paltrow in the movie, I must say -- I agree with you, regretfully.

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

Of course Blanchet would have been batter, but you could say that about so many roles.

I don't think Palthrow was terrible here. She does jealousy pretty well. True, her voice can be annoying, but I don't get the constant hatred for her. She's a decent actress, and if anything her looks are a distraction. Perhaps a less attractive actress would have been better of 'Sylvia'. Palthrow's stunning beauty sometimes seems incongruous with her acting deficiencies.

But, as you indicate, Kate Blanchet seems to be a far more refined and elegant actress than Palthrow. Its a bad thing for Gwen that they look somewhat alike, and are typically cast in similar roles.

Wow! I thought she did an incredible job of acting in this film. The subtle looks were entirely believable. She nailed it as far as I could tell and I'm a long time film fan and hopefully I've learned to notice actors who stretch their acting muscles and pull off a stunner.
