Favourite minor character?

Like, a character that is secondary to Nan, Kitty, Diana, Flo etc. Mine would have to Flo's brother, I forget his name. I thought he was just the sweetest bloke ever, especially when he comes down stairs to see Nan and Flo together after their first night, he keeps it together and accepts it. And I really felt for him when he got up on stage, with his speech prepared, and really sucked at it, then got really good when Nan came up. I think that he was a standout character amongst all the female leads.

Flo's brother was called Ralph and I agree he was a great character. He represented everything that was good about menin that story.

As well as Ralph I loved Annie Price, Flo's friend. She's just so vibrant and full of life that you can't help but like her. She's even more fun in the book.

I agree with both of the above choices, especially Annie Price. I love the way she says, "Are you Sue Bridehead? My name's Jude..." She made a small part very memorable.

And even though she stole from Nan - in the mini-series, at least - I also like Zena Blake, the maid. I've got a lot of time for Sally Hawkins.

I don't understand the question, and I won't respond to it.

The maid Zena although she stole from Nan, she was a sweet person.

And Flo's brother, Ralph because he had no prejudices at all about Nan and Flo being together, he was even happy for them. You got to like this guy.

I also liked the little girl -I forgot her name- daughter of the hotel owner where Nan stays when Kittie betrayed her. She seemed to come alive when Nan was around. Too bad there was not more of her in the movie.

I liked Annie and Ralph. And although you can't exactly like her, Maria Jex was so well played. She's best known for being hard-bitten housewives so seeing her being a grisly old lesbian was a hoot!

I love Annie Price too. I also really liked the guy Nan met when she was a prostitute, the one who called himself 'Alice' after his sister.

reply

Well, Sally Hawkins was in it. She's a "given" as my favorite if she's in the film!!!

reply

i agree, sally hawkins is a given as my favorite but i really liked her character simply because she was very introverted, quiet, and possibly anxious and when her and nan just let loose, it made me happy to know that zena can let go. just kind of a funny arc to me how she went from being quiet, to drunk with nan, to having sex with nan, to having sex with nan with a strap on. just quick changes and i liked it.

So true!

Sally was amazing in that little role.<3
I hope that Zena gets her boarding house in the colonies.^^

This is a very VERY minor character - but Nan's original "sweetheart" Freddie, simply because I've totally got a thing for Benedict Cumberbatch. Shocked the hell out of me when he turned up years later as "Sherlock" and became one of the best actors of our generation :-)

(I realise he's probably been around all that time, but Sherlock was the first major thing I saw him in)

Oh, and the pigeon that attacked Nan in the lodging house, just because it was hilarious.

Are you referring to Lord Grantham?
