2 versus 1

Did anyone else think that "The Wheel" just did NOT fit in with the theme of Three Extremes 1 and 2? What a piece of boring cliche crap! I absolutely LOVED every other episode on both dvds, but, man was I disappointed with "The Wheel"....

reply

Agreed. It reminded me of an episode from The Hitchiker series.

(though "crap" is a harsh description to use)

reply

I Agree too.

omg "the wheel" was absolutely HORRIBLE!! "Going home" was my favorite by far of all the Three Extreme tales. So beautifully haunting.

reply

the wheel... ugh. spent the whole time waiting for it to redeem itself, or be over...

reply

the wheel was terrible...i skipped right passed it after about 3 minutes in.

i felt as a whole this 'sequel' was pretty bad, the first story was just kind of 'eh'. The final story was quite interesting, but still just kind of fell short.

loved all three on part 1, am yet to watch the other 2 in part 2, but I started with "the wheel", and yah, it did blow. what lame deaths!!!

I liked Cut, very different from most CW Park stuff. Dumplings was good, and Box was fantastic.
Though in general, I preffer Park to Miike.

reply

I'd have to disagree. Cut was highly entertaining and was perfect following dumplings. Box on the other hand was really good, but was much slower. Dumplings was gross, Cut was funny/disturbing, and Box had alot of build up, but I don't think it delivered what it promised. All were good but box was slower and less entertaining.

i really liked "The Wheel", i found that the plot kept me interested about what was going on, and the male protagonist was a good actor too. I disagree with you though, i found it fit in with the 'afterlife' theme of the three extremes 2, and found nothing cliched about it. Memories is the cliched of them all imho (i can think of two other movies with a similar theme off hand).

With "Memories" it was predictable, 5 minutes into the film I knew what was going to happen, however i liked how the story was played out, but predictability in a film is unforgiving to me.

"Going Home" was really different and refreshing and I definintly liked it. in the last 10 minutes i was scared that one of the plots wasn't going to be tied up. It kept me guessing, and i think that's one of the reasons why i liked this film so much.

I have yet to find a good Thai horror film... And don't give me "Shutter," that was predictable as hell.

13 Beloved is a great Thai horror film

reply

Yikes, yikes, yikes. I strongly disagree on 13 Beloved. It was great at first but 25 minutes in it had me bored to tears.

The first time I saw Shutter I thought it was great, and I recently bought the DVD for $24.99 and upon re-watch I've come to realize I don't like it nearly as much as I did originally. Out of the four Thai horrors I have seen, Sick Nurses is the best.

Meh, 3 Extremes was alot better than 3 Extremes 2 imo.

reply

Well, the reason (likely) is that 3 Extremes II wasn't really the sequel, it actually preceded Three Extremes. Originally it was entitled Three and utilized some lesser-known directors and was only ever released overseas.

So then they decided to make another one, and called it Three... Extremes, with better-known directors. This is the movie with Dumplings, Cut, and Box. Since Three Extremes made it to (and was well received in)the Western world, they decided to repackage the first movie (Three) for the West, but retitled it as Three Extremes II since it was being released here second.

So the "worse" sequel is really just the first attempt, and Three Extremes was their second and more polished attempt.
