The point with Julie's religious respect and Sarah's secularism?

I felt it makes such a unique and provocative statement. Julie gives off the vibe that religion and faith is important with the crucifix while Sarah is without religious or spiritual scruples. Yet in the movie Julie is a total party animal who loves to live free and love life. Meanwhile Sarah practically walks around mean spirited, uptight, and like someone shoved a pole up her rectum. It takes a jab at both right and left sides by breaking the stereotype.

I see it in real life too where hard secularist people are completely strict and disgruntled. I could imagine historically that guys like Karl Marx, Lenin, and Mao not at all liked to get down. Meanwhile I can see guys like Kennedy, Ted Roosevelt, and Reagan partying like Van Wilder.
