Certainly not crap, but... (potential spoilers)
...it just left me empty.
The heavily stylised delivery did not warrant the actual events taking place.
A film so beautifully delivered should really have a bigger twist at the end (see Se7en by David Fincher). All of that darkness and beautifully jagged imagery is justified by how we are left feeling at the end of the film.
I just felt that the film left me feeling as though it was style over substance...but only because of the ending.
I think there could have been a more interesting plot twist at the end, perhaps in the form of it all being in the detectives head; him being the killer and Kingsley's character merely his alter ego; his delusional self portrait.
The film as it stands should have been delivered as a standard detective thriller.
Just my opinion.
