is carol supposed to be heathcliff?

I know its very loosely based on wuthering heights and certain events that effect characters on the book and their personalities but the whole carol make over thing in episode 2 and her personality is quite an obvious mirror to heathcliff and that of the father beatin her , is he supposed to represent hindley after all she does get the house and business. either way i liked it alot!

I read somewhere that Carol indeed was supposed to be like Heathcliff, and John Standring was a mix out of Isabella and Andrew, therefore the male lead (mathhew, was it??) was supposed to be Catherine.

I also liked it: I read the book quite a few years ago, and was confused first, but after I read that it was supposed to be just roughly based on the book, it really grew on me.

Yes, i remember reading an interview with Sally Wainwright (the writer) and she wrote the series to see if a female character could be a Heathcliff type figure.

Thanks, for the information. It's a nice corroboration of my impression.

I saw Carol as Heathcliff, though she comes not back rich, and Andrew as Catherine.
