Not as Good as the orginal Sounder

Sorry, but I found this version inferior compared to the original 1972, version with Cicely Tyson and Paul Winfield.

What didn't you like a bout it? What made the original better?

I'm just about to watch the re-make of Sounder and I am usually a big critic and fan of "the original versions." However, I'm also a teacher of the book and the 1970's version of Sounder is one of the poorest adaptions of a novel that I've ever seen. If you've never read the book, I'm sure the film is well-acted and the storyline is reasonable. BUT if you know the original true story, the original film version is horrible, mis-leading, and does not truly represent a real story of a teacher who has dealt with racism and discrimination throughout his life. I am optimistic that this new version tells the true story in the way it was lived.

You're right. I've read the book, and have seen both movie versions, and can honestly say that despite the original film version not sticking close to the book, it was a far superior film, once compared to the remake.

Moreover, Sounder II was much better than the Sounder remake.
