American remake on it's way.

Swedish director Ulf Malmros confirmed today that the rights to the film has been sold to an american studio, so a remake is probably not far away.

Good or bad?

I for one never like american remakes as they always (period!) end up worse than the original.
'Susie' however could be interesting, especially since much of it's charm for us swedish viewers lies in the ganster lingo with the goofy accent, which never reaches the non-swedish viewers.

I got the same opinion about remakes and I'm not sure why this should be different. But you got a point about the languageissue which only swedes and some norwegians get.

reply

Why not a remake? It'll give Ulf Malmros some money for future film projects!

Because the rights was sold to an american studio does not mean that they actually gonna do it. Does anyone remember a few years ago that Adam Sandler`s company bought the rights to Josef Fares' film Kopps but there are no remake done yet and probably wont.

But on the other hand they actually did a remake of Den Osynlige so there are some few hopes that it will be done, who knows?

How can a remake be bad? It dosent replace the original.

"How can a remake be bad? It dosent replace the original."

That doesn't make any sense, it's like saying "finger nail salad is not bad, because it doesn't replace regular green salad!"

Of course there is a remake on its way, I just read the plot and a few quotes from the movie, its hilarious. What the hell is wrong with America? I thought the Indie film scene was making up for a lackluster Hollywood these days...

Oh no! The charm of this movie is the dialect and the weird people of Värmland. How could that possibly translate to English?

These American remakes make me nervous.. they often turn into over commercialized mediocre mush.

come on you guys! i thought you were smart over there in scandinavia.
of course, every country has their own version of Varmland and crazy accents.

and sure, american remakes are often worse than the foreign originals. But just remember, 'always' and 'never' are rarely correct.and americans and brits have , since films began, made a number of remakes of their own films- sometimes for worse, but occasionally for better.

we had a lot of laughs w/ this film tonight.
