'They look like monsters to you?'

Does anyone else LOVE this line? I loved Vincent's character in general and the way he says that line was just great. for some reason his character just really interested me. I wish we could've known more about his past and whatnot. Anyway, anyone else love the line?

I really made me think when he said that. In a way, yes they are monsters, but in a very strange way they look almost human, very deformed humans, but human nevertheless (is that all one word?)

I do love the line, but it really makes me wonder...what happened? All I played was this one, so I don't really know, but why is everything so...uh messed up, I guess...

Oh yeah Lynch is VERY evident throughout the series. I'm not complaining! :) The Blue Velvet rape scene reference wigged me out.

I noticed that, it's almost identicle, except for the gas mask and Denis Hopper wasn't a pyramid head.LOL. I am a HUGE fan of both David Lynch and SH and I think that the games must've been heavily inspired by Lynch.

I always took it as a way of Vincent to tell Heather that in reality some cult freaks were out to kill her but Heather saw them as monsters instead because of the 'power" she had.

But because Heather reacted in shock he simply said "Don't worry it's just a joke" to calm her down.

That's how i took it.

Vincent was one of the best characters i've ever seen in a videogame, and his performance in SH3 was top-notch...And the way he smiles when he says:"It's just a joke!"...Soooo creepy!!

I think it means that his involvement with/proximity to the other world means he can see the monsters as they were before they were transformed, he can see past the veil of mist. So whilst Heather is happily whacking the brains out of a blood thirty Scraper, Vincent sees her butchering a human trapped in a hallucinogenic state. Or even children and animals.

Why do people so frequently get told to "read the book" on a movie database?

My interpretations & what I've heard:

Numb Body - Fetus, early stages of the pregnancy because 1) They get bigger later in the game, 2) They're not seen after that point, 3) The God she throws up looks slightly like one
Cancer - What the pregnancy is to her, a cancer.
Double Head - Alessa's fear of dogs (present in SH1) plus the duality of Heather/Alessa since the dog is two half's held together
Pendulum - I'm going to have to go with dualism with this too because I believe it is the like Mannequin of SH2. Two identical half's connected at the middle (like the King, Queen Jack cards).

Split-Head - Someone said this is a sexual thing, like alot of James's manifestations were a result of his sexual frustration, Heather is a pregnant teen (hormones galore).

'Alright Dexter! Protecting our children!!'

AgentX7k thanks for the analysis of the monsters since I never really looked at them that way. That makes sense at what you described of them.

Still I feel that maybe Vincent knew of Heather's frustration but wanted to calm her down before she became stressed and focised on negative energy which the God needed. Then again it could also imply that maybe some members of the Order were sent to kill her.

i think the line was used to suggest maybe to him they are not monsters at all, he could see angels for all you know or he could just see people or nothing at all, he said it to *beep* with heathers head, he probaly see's just plain monsters to but as silent hill 2 makes perfectly clear silent hill looks and changes depending on who enters.

I liked that quote too. Vincent likes messing with her.

You know there is a possibility that those "monsters" are actually people.

Claudia wouldn't just come and travel to where Harry and Heather live and confront Heather by herself. she would have brought along some help in the form of her other cult members.

Those monster that heather face could be cult members trying to kill or capture her.

Heather possibly sees them as monsters because she was originally Alessa. "Monsters" are how Alessa metaphorically sees those cult members. Heather is simply seeing these people in the way as Alessa saw them.

The only thing that doesn't make sense is if these are actually peple, then what about the flying insect monsters?

It actually pisses me off just a little bit, because now you've got all these "clever" gamers going on about how "Heather is crazy and killing people" aside from the fact that she wouldn't even have gotten out of the Mall whacking random citizens with pipes - let alone all the places she does make it to, it seems like a completely self indulgent interpretation to me, it's 'Isn't it great I thought of that?' For me, the first thing that it brings to mind, and more than likely the only thing it's meant to bring to mind is that Vincent doesn't see anything grotesque or monstrous about them, and that makes him grotesque and monstrous.

There's also the "Jacob's Ladder" interpretation, (a major influence on Silent Hill) you can look that up in the "Jacob's Ladder" FAQ if you've seen that movie. But It would mean Heather is dead

Also that freak Claudia thinks she's turning the world into "Heaven" so why the hell is there so much focus on his line meaning something different? It's completely in line with the thought process the cult operates under.

Just as a side note, if Heather was a spree killer, I don't think Doug would be walking around like: "Hey what's up? Let's hang out."

But yeah, despite a select group of people's reaction to it, it is a really great line.
