Who else wanted to smack Glass every time he said.....

"Are you mad at me?"? I mean what mature individual says that? Which is probably the point; he wasn't mature on top of being a compulsive liar. I swear, though, every time I see this movie I wanna smack the living sh*t out of him.

And while immature, it's actually fairly manipulative, and Glass knows it. He's essentially laying guilt onto anyone that doesn't approve of him. If he asserts aloud that the other person may be angry ("Are you mad at me?"), then Glass figures that this will soften the blow and the angry person will wind up scolding him LESS, perhaps because the person now feels guilt for kicking a presumably defenseless child.

About the second time anybody says, "are you mad at me?" the best response is, "You're damn right I am, and with damn good reason."

4) You ever seen Superman $#$# his pants? Case closed.

It's definitely manipulative. I work with several people who whine, "Do you like me? Do you think I'm nice?" One guy even whines, "Are you gay? I heard you were gay..."

I either ignore them, or mock their question. The worst thing you can do is respond to them, because that gives them a small "victory." It's not like they're interested in your answer; it's completely self serving.

So.... What job do you do? Juvenile penitentiary? Psych ward or something? Hope it's not kindergarten teacher.

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefsī²

EXACTLY. It was a manipulation. As soon as he could tell people were on to him, it was a defense mechanism. Pull the woe is me act so the "accuser" will instinctively want to soften and prove they're not mad, etc. It's away to soften or deflect a blow.

This worked for me to accentuate his childishness because small children do this when adults are angry with them as a way of manipulating the adults emotions. I ask you this because I would be upset if you were. Oh, don't be upset. Of course I'm not cross with you. Throughout the movie he uses variations on this idea, the occasions when he asked people to drive him somewhere because he was frightened to drive himself; turning up at his old boss's new place of work. I don't believe he was vulnerable I just believe that he was a manipulator who tried to use everyone even his own friends manipulating them so they would turn against his boss.

Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?

Like the way he implies that he would kill himself if left alone. Oh, woe is him. By that point I didn't want him to jump, I wanted to push him.

reply

Yes, it rather appropriate Hayden Christiansen followed his prequel work in a similar role. I want to smack him when I see him act in anything.
