was folke a closet-norwegian? spoilers

...or atleast feeling ashamed be a swede?

he got sick of swedish food, didnt connect with his countrymen, he felt shame about swedens role under ww2, and he turned back when was about to cross the border. and im sure there are more stuff i could have mentioned.

and the only time he seemed truly happy was when he was living in isaks house at the end of the movie.

a great movie, it truly captures the norwegian inherited stiffness syndrome and the swedish industrial scientific set mind. :)

I wouldn't say he was ashamed. He just didn't have any family left except an elderly aunt. This job gave him a connection to people and they happened to be Norwegian.

I would say he was embarrassed over Sweden's neutrality in WWII. They saved their country from being crushed by Hitler by selling out others. They supplied Hitler with iron ore and allowed Nazi troops access through their country to attack Norway.

I agree that WWII is a source of embarresment for swedes, and should be. Even though many jews were able to hide here during the war the fact remains that if we had been truly neutral we shouldn't have allowed the germans to use our resources as they did.

We also don't like to mention that we were the first country to have an institute for scientific racism..
