Scientific method: positivistic, qualitative method.

Hello everyone!

I was simply wondering if anyone (not very likely) has seen this movie BECAUSE OF Pål Repstads book "Mellom nærhet og distanse" (Between proximity and distance), the book being an introduction to qualitative method in the social sciences.

Reason I'm asking, is that Repstad uses the movie as an image throughout the text, exemplifying applied qualitative method (in a rather interesting way) i the field.

Anyone? Any views?

Off course, even if you haven't read the book (in Norwegian only, I guess) I would appreciate feedback on the general topic of the directors/writers interest in, or mocking of, scientific method in the social sciences.

Oh, and by the way; It's a gem of a movie!

I saw this as a part of my anthropological studies for a similar reason, but more to emphasize the need of the emic (insider) perspective and that we can only gather so much data alone from observing. We must also participate.

Bonjour!

Actually, I was introduced to this movie by a German anthropoligist teaching Qualitative Research in Nursing,in French,at Université de Montréal (Canada). I truly enjoyed it. The fact that I understand Norwegian only made it even more interesting to me.

Unfortunately, my Norwegian is kind of rusty and too basic for me to read «Mellom nærhat og distanse»... If you ever find out that it was translated (other works of his were), please let me know.

Martine
