Obscene!!! Boycott this film.......

To all American citizens (especially New Yorkers)
The ultimate slap in the face, and I'm sure the large percentage of Americans are unaware of this atrocity.
"RUDY", the film based on the story of New Yorks (and "Americas) mayor at the time of one of our country's darkest moments....has been entirely filmed in Canada.
At a time when unemployment is high in the ranks of New Yorks film tecnicians, especially following the events of 9/11......the film of one of New Yorks beloved leaders, and set in the city of New York has been filmed in its entirety in Canada with Canadian labor.
It seems the currency exchange and government subsidies were enough of a lure to garner a bit more profits for the producers (IRONICALLY.....USA Network, and Carlton America) at the expense of already suffering New York technicians.
For all you American citizens unaware of this injustice and greed, I implore you to boycott this TV production (to air March 30) and to pass on this message by e-mail, voicemail, or any other way to as many people as possible to send these greedy and insensitive fat cats a message by giving RUDY as low a ratings disaster as possible.

Support USA labor

Support our troops

Dude, there are many shows, movies, etc that are filmed in Canada. Stop complaining. Judge it by how good or bad the movie is, not by where it was filmed. What is this, the anti-NAFTA message board?

they used actual scenes from 9/11 to honor the victims and to show realism to the film...NOT TOO LINE THE POCKETS OF RICH PRODUCERS. I think that arguement is ridiculous.Though i agree it might be distastful to the sqiumish because of the realism. the movie i thought was great and not a piece of crap.

I am actually watching this movie right now and I am finding it just spellbinding...at this point it doesn't matter where the movie was made in...it just matters that it was made!!! I think USA has done a splendid job thus far on this movie. James Woods is capturing Rudy just perfectly and I woulnd't doubt it one bit if he gets a nice little oscar nod next year...we should reflecting on the situation not worrying about where it was filmed..who gives a crap!!! I for one am going to give this movie and A+

I thought it was very good - not at all as adulatory of the Mayor as I thought it might be. I found it interesting that they leave the relationship with his press secretary (Christine) ambiguous. So far as anyone knows, there was no sexual relationship with her - but they WERE together all the time. I also think Giuliani is a much smarter and a bit less ranting and raving man than as depicted. However, I thought they did a good job.

We're going to see the 9/11 scenes in many movies - they WANT to be realistic -I didn't mind real footage of Pearl Harbor being used in the movie of that name either.

Why are you making such a fuss that this movie was made in Canada?
Who really cares?
I think that it was a story that had to be told...
Good Movie!
Well Played...
Heck! "CHICAGO" was made in Canada, and their mayor totally enjoyed the movie named for his wonderful city!

reply

To all you morons who are wondering "why such a fuss" about where this was filmed. I'll make it very simple.
The travesty of the events of 9/11 had a direct impact on the jobs of people of New York City. The two industrys that the economy of New York depends on most is tourism, and the TV and film industry.
After 9/11 large portions of New York were made unavailable for filming and tourism due to security matters.
This, along with the fear of further attacks, kept these crucial industries way below what they need to be to sustain the many jobs that were being lost.
If the people of New York hadn't suffered enough already, they were also losing jobs. Getting the picture now????
My argument is that in view of all this, there is no reason why this story couldn't have been filmed in the very place all this suffering took place, while at the same time, giving a much needed economic boost to those in NYC who desperately need it.
The reason it wasn't, was the greed of the producers to make even more profits.
And THAT IS WHY ALL THE FUSS ABOUT WHERE IT WAS FILMED.
It was indeed a slap in the face to New Yorkers.
And if no one understands this, you are one of 3 things:
1. A Canadian
2. A Producer
3. A Moron
Thank you all for your understanding and sensitivity.

I thought James Woods performance was outstanding, surely he deserves recognition for his work. As of the "facts" surrounding his extra-marital affairs, no one knows but the man and the woman. People around him gave account to what they saw and the director filmed what he thought was the most true to Rudy's life. The whole uproar here about RUDY being filmed in Canada, I can understand that. I agree that we need to focus on our own economy and jobs growth now more than ever, but that doesn't make this a bad pic or boycott worthy. We all have our opinions and thats what these forums are here for, but to label anyone who disagrees with your opinion either a Canadian, Producer, or MORON is defeating the purpose of open debate. Name calling is the cowards way out.

This did not paint a rosy picture of Mr.Giuliani, nor did this film expose him as some sort of failure, but any of us that would have our lives examined and filmed would see that not one of us was so innocent either. We all had our ups and downs, and for a Mayor of the greatest city in the world, I think he did a pretty good job.

Oh, and tom-171 thanked us all for our "understanding and sensitivity", maybe he should try using some of that himself. We may not all agree, but we can respect others opinions as their own, as I did with him.

Don't care where this crap was made , this is one terrible movie...
James Woods is an actor I have always thougt to be solid . good actor....

But this movie is a all time low..

reply

James Woods is an amazing actor but he was totally miscast in this fawning bio-pic. I agree with the poster that said Robert Duvall would have been a better choice. As a Canadian, it does strike me as very strange that a patriotic US film like this was made in Canada. If they made a movie about a Canadian hero, and they filmed it in a foreign country a lot of people would be complaining!!

Part of the reason they film in Canada is that American locations charge so much to film. It's not just the producers who want to make a profit, the owners of the filming locations do too. If they didn't charge so much (and by the way, American labor is the most expensive in the world), the producers wouldn't have to film in Canada. Really, they shot themselves in the foot.

reply

By the way, I don't think James Woods even resembles Rudy one bit. I think Robert Duvall would have been a better casting choice, since he looks more like Rudy.
