hei s going to be in it

With work due to start on his "Ghost Rider" movie any day now, Nic Cage has confirmed what he'll be filming next. And it doesn't bode for well for fans of iconic British horror as Cage has agreed to take the lead in director Neil LaBute's remake of "The Wicker Man", the classic 1973 chiller that starred Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee.

While the original was set on the remote Scottish Island of Summerisle, this update will relocate the action to a sheltered community off the coast of Maine where Cage's outsider cop arrives to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. But his enquiries soon unravel sinister secrets. Filming is due to start in mid-July.

"America.... A sad excuse for the worlds only superpower."

Damn, I guess you're saying the other countries must be extremely bad *beep* if America is a sorry excuse.

reply

I made no comment on other countries..... Just that the USA has so little history they have to steal other countries history, just to make their populos interested in popular media.

I'm sure your at home now eating your apple pie singing star-spangled banner thinking how great your country is.

I'm sure you think your country is better than mine... it probably is, but at least I know my country has faults rather than a red-white-and-blue blurred vision of how FANTASTIC the land I live in is.

If ever the USA should leave something alone.... then it is the Wicker Man.

amen to that geez lol

I f'n well agree, you geezers are like glory hunting parasites when it comes to non-us legacies! WW2 Films, you made the worst ones, and that didnt p*ss me off, you re wrote hellblazer into a yank you f'nwell stay away from this !

Your mad because we want to remake an excellent movie??

And your mad because America takes inititive where others don't??

I like you Britons, but sometimes I think you need to get with the program.

It's just easier to say:
Great Britan... A very sad excuse for the worlds former superpower.

Personally I have no problem with Americans remaking great films (enjoyed the Ring, Lord of the Rings etc.) However, the Wicker Man is more than a film. Because of its production problems and original slant, it has become a cult film. That is why it should not be remade. Much of the magic of the Wicker Man is that it is a stand alone film. It was a work of passion for Christopher Lee, Robin Hardy etc. and it must feel like kidnapping. No matter how much someone cares for your baby, you wouldn't be hapy seeing another person take it, would you?

reply

HEY GROOVYDOUCHE1973! How is it USAs fault that the guy who directed the original wants to remake it? I'm sorry that your half a retard, and that you dont know $#!+ about $#!+.

reply

He may be groovey, but u seem like a nominee for biggest douche in the universe.

reply

Hi folks sorry I aint got back to you.

Just a few points. hardy wanted to make a sequel.... not a remake.
It's the American remake (Which will star Nic Cage) I have the problem with.

Yes you are quite right... Great Britain is a sad excuse for a former superpower, Like I said in a previous post... I know my country has faults, and anyway I'm Scottish so I can detach myself from such critisism very easily.

mmmmm would Americans know the difference between Britain and Scotland.... mmmm we will see.

Was my quote about the US being a sad excuse because they are re-making a 70's B movie ???? yes it probably was.....yes your right, remaking the Wicker Man does not make the US a sad excuse..... its all the other c r a p they do round the world that makes them a sad excuse for the world only superpower.

Ok. Now having said all that, I am going to inroduce you to Bi-polar opinion.... ok now yanks stay with me here.... dont lose it. Just because I hate the US for planning to ruin my favourite film... and it's questionable forien policy (Which I Marched in Edinburgh Against at the G8)... you really have got a great country..... or will be when you stop running.

The Universe's biggest Douche is it ?.... c'mon there are more worthy nominee's than me what about Osama ??? Michael Jackson ??? George W. ??? Tony Blair.

I am not half retard... to suggest so especially when your president is a mental defective is rather lame.

The path to enlightenment is a Jouney not a destination. on the path were 2 friends.. USA and UK.

UK : USA..USA..... Why are you running so fast ?

USA : Because I can !!!!!

One day America will stop running.... she will win the hearts and minds of all the people's of the world.

I have no desire to "get with" any "program".

reply

Take is easy... if Brits took an American icon like Batman and made something great of out it, the least you could do is wait for some more info on this production before labeling it crap; Americans have made good movies a few times before.

That being said, I am very wary of remaking the Wicker Man, same director or not. It will be extremely hard, especially in the current climate where noone wants to talk about religion at all, to retain the mood and creepiness that made the original great. Kinda the same problem with the remake of the Manchurian Candidate--A very well made remake, incredible acting, but they're still filling the void of the Red Scare and all they could come up with was... corporate greed? Yaaawn!

reply

Everyone keeps accusing the Americans of being behind the remake, yet I've also read director Robin Hardy WANTED to do it, which is why he is at the helm. (He would not be the first director to remake one of his own films, DeMille and Hitchcock both have done it.) While I'm reluctant to see a remake, the fact that Hardy and Christopher Lee are both attached to it does make me more inclined to give it a chance. (And, in the wake of the fanatacism we've seen with various cults in the headlines in the years since THE WICKER MAN was made, the topic is still timely.) Then again, given how many films have been announced as being in the works (I keep hearing about Christopher Lee appearing in a live action remake of THE LAST UNICORN, reprising his role from the animated version), there is no guarantee the film will actually see the light of day. Anyone following the film industry knows that it's not uncommon for projects to be on-again, off-again indefinitely.

I see IMDB actually lists two remakes--Robin Hardy's MAY DAY for 2005, and Nick Cage's THE WICKER MAN for 2006.
