Nicolas Cage's next picture will be director Neil LaBute's remake of 1973 thriller The Wicker Man, with Millennium Films, Equity Pictures and Emmett/Furla Films producing, reports Variety.

LaBute adapted the screenplay, in which a sheriff investigates the disappearance of a young girl on a remote island off the coast of Maine. His hopes of unraveling the girl's disappearance become increasingly uncertain when he discovers evidence of pagan rituals.

The movie will begin production July 15 in Vancouver. Cage is currently shooting comic book adaptation Ghost Rider in Melbourne.

Is this the same project or a different one?

I always thought Robin Hardy was working on "May Day"

Or, could it be that they are both two different projects?

Course, I think this May Day project is dead anyway.

I think you are right about the May Day project dying.
There is no way both a re-make and a re-imagining are
going to be made in the same year and since the
Cage/Labute version has studio money behind it you
know that it will be the one to get made.

Erm, War of the Worlds?

reply

Yeah, I just saw that. Pretty insane but I guess it is the same as the dueling
Robin Hoods and the 2 Dangerous Liasons. It can happen with public domain material but Wicker Man is not in that situation. The above statement was not phrased right so you were correct to point that out. Still there will not be 2 versions of Wicker Man.

I stand corrected.

According to a newspaper article the new film is being made. But it turns out that it is neither a remake or a re-imagining. It is another film that involved pagens. Chris Lee appears in the movie but not as Lord Summerisle. I can't wait to see it.

I've noticed that some of the articles on the web and in newspapers did mix up these films as well. For example calling the remake "May Day" with nicholas cage as the star.

Anyway, the latest thing I heard about "May Day":

If this interview is in fact authentic the film is now called "Cowboys for Christ" and will start production next march.

One way or a another, if Robin Hardy and Christopher Lee team up for any kind of film I'm sure they won't disappoint us.

cowboys for christ huh. ok.......

Here's the deal

... Nickolas Cage is starring in the official American remake of the Wicker Man. Ellen Brystein , an excellent actress is playing Lady Summerile.

The makers of the orginal British film the Wicker Man got mad and decided to make their own film. Not a sequel or prequel. Can't call it a remake officially either as they no longer have the rights.

This new British film was first called Ridding the Laddie, then called May Day and is now called Cowboys for Christ. Christopher Lee is playing the pagan leader who while is not called Lord Summerile, his character will be have that function (as ruler of the pagan cult of a unamed Scottish isle.).

2 different projects: the official American Remake with Ellen Brystein and the unoffical British remake with Christopher Lee. Both sound interesting to me.

Hope that clears things up.
