Carlo was selfish

Just watched this film and thought Carlo was just pure and simple selfish. The lover was good in that he realized he wanted to write, but he could have done this with his current situation. Did she make him more passionate, Maybe yes but it would have not lasted. he wife gave up something too and he should have tried to understand he was not alone in that he should have talked to her and she to him and they could have worked it out.

I see this film - and Carlo - in a less black-and-white way. Everyone was seeking happiness and fulfillment, as best he or she could, and in different ways. By Christmas (my favorite part of the film), Giulia, Valentina, and Paolo seemed to have attained some joy in life. Carlo was still seeking.

We make priority decisions, and the priorities change over time. Sometimes, these priorities no longer match the expectations of others, and we grow apart. People get hurt in life. It happens.

I think Carlos by re-reading his book, he attained his happiness when he admits to Alessia that it's actually pretty good. Maybe I'm completely crazy but I think the movie shows each person achieving their goal, them realizing it and then returning to the family whole. I think that's what happened to Carlos at the end.
