Question for speakers of Korean...

In the movie, when the teen girls are discussing the number games in the classroom, like taking the letters from your names and your crushes name etc and adding them together. Well, during that scene one of the girls teases "what's this names" and and girl replies (IN SUBTITLE) "Leonardo DiCaprio" but what she's actually saying in the movie sounds like "Cha Tae-hyun". So, my question is- was she really referring to the actor "Cha Tae-Hyun" and the just subtitled it "Leonardo DiCaprio" so that western audiences would get the idea that it was a celebrity's number she was pretending to have?? Sorry if this question is worded confusingly :S

No one hasn't answered to this one, I see..
Well I just saw the movie with Finnish subtitles and it was aboviously translated from the original (when you have seen many movies that have been translated first to some other language - usually to German or English) and then to Finnish you can usually notice it..
So: In Finnish translation the girl really said some Korean actor (but I don't remember anymore who. Cha Tae-hyn sounds about right..

That Leonardo DiCaprio is definitely for the Western audience.. I don't really see the point as it was so abvious that the girl meant a guy that every girl in the class had crush into.. So the meaning would have been the same even with the original name..

They have done similar things here in Finland also and sometimes they turn out really good.. But not always - fortunately they don't do that very often anymore.. You can learn another culture much better when the translation is close to the original..
(That is - also - what translation really is about.. It is not about adding your own words to the text)

I agree, the context is clear and we don't need to be spoon fed a fake translation to help us understand. They should have kept the original name as it was in the script. The change only attracts attention to itself and breaks the flow.
