There's gonna be a US remake.

OK, I'm sure that at least 95% of people who've seen this film already guessed, but just for the extra 5% who might not have figured it out yet, check out what I found on IONCinema.com. It's short, but it says it right:

"The Hollywood Reporter reports that Focus Features' new Rogue division has come aboard for the U.S. remake of the Korean horror hit Phone."

So..first thoughts? Actors/actresses? I know that there's like a 0.000000(=5 years later=)00001 chance that they'll find a 5-6 year old American girl who'll put as much effort into the Yeong-ju role!

And what about the phone itself? What network/brand will be used? They'll probably go with a rather plain-looking Nokia with Vodafone, but all I can say is God help them if they pick T-Mobile. They'd probably be able to increase the movie's success ten-fold if they use Sony Ericssons, and NO I'm not a Sony fanboy, but they're so ridiculously popular that it could happen.

Any other thoughts?

That's unbelievably stupid. Woohoo

I thought after watching this film when the US were going to do a remake,
must say I quite enjoyed this film.

that makes me mad.. i watch alot of Asian Horrot/thriller fillms, and i saw that this was like the only one that didnt have a remake. i thought it would stay that way.. but i guess i asumed to soon.

I haven't heard anything on this since Juliet Snowden and Stiles White told us they were writing the remake, her dad taught at the college I go to and they came for a screenwriter workshop. Other than that I heard nothing.

bahh can't americans make movies on their own? why do they have to copy and ruin all the nice movies? grrrr ¬¬

and... about the girl... yeah, you're right, they'll never find someone who'll be half as good as Seo-woo Eun.

Other than whos making it and who will be casted.. NO ONE can compare with Young-Ju. She is a great actor exspecially for her age.. shes the orignal. i know when they make this movie, its gonna be so messd up, but of course stupid teens (even though im a teen myself and American) will love it and say that it was so scary. And they also wont give the orignal a chance just because iys not in English or whatever,, that pisses me off so much. I hope that they arent gonna make this movie. i heard they are also remkaing a great French film that i like, He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not. its so good, but now its gonna get messed up.

There is only one good thing about all these remakes, which is the opportunity to see the originals. Think of it as an introduction to the Oriental film making. But yes, it is getting very annoying. Enough already. And even if some of the remakes are good or interesting, it is so obvious that they were made for some serious money grabbing.

Maybe Dakota Fanning for Young-Ju. Or maybe that one girl....you know who im talking about?

Shawnee Smith for the main charatcer...ok nevermind. my casting sucks

Will there still be a remake after how Pulse did?

reply

A movie remake could be good if they copy this film almost word for word, and the actors are chosen for quality rather than star power.

Remember, remakes bring attention to the original. Always. So if the remake is bad atleast more people will watch this and appreciate it.

That's true but they'll probably have CGI ghosts coming out of the cell phones and cast teeny bopper thesps who look good but of whom the word "actor" is to be used loosely.

This is going to suck big time. I am an american but I hate it when my fellow patriots destroy good horror movies. Here are the list that they alway seem to stick by and end up killing the remakes.

1. They foucus to much on CGI then on the story.

2. They PG-13 the hell out of it when the originals are violent. But they do it so that the sissy teens who get easliy scared can get in and see the film.

3. They change to much of the plot on some so that it can be very short usually 80mins when the original is about 109 to 120 mins.

4. the female actresses that are put in as the heroes are not believable and they don't go the extra mile that the Asian Females usally do. They give it there all as if they want to get a nomination for an Oscar.

5. And they change the ending all the time and it always comes out retarded.

Hollywood needs to realize that people are getting sick of them remaking classic films or great horror films and end up killing it.

A remake will likely be geared towards a mass American audience, which will likely mean dumbed down, and spiced up.

But in no way will it damage or hinder the original. The original (and other asian horror movies too) can only gain more audience as people investigate the origins of the remake...

While a remake may be 'interesting' to watch (at least once), the original will remain 'enjoyable' to watch.
