Future of Latino Cinema

Do you think the critical and financial failure of "Chasing Papi" will have a negative impact for films with Latino leads in the future?

Well, if they have two things: good engaging stories and lots of topless chicas, that'll guarantee a lot. Otherwise, why bother?

Anyway, watch something like Tortilla Soup, Real Women Have Curves, City of God or Raising Victor Vargas. Just because they don't have high box-office returns doesn't mean it can't have lots of audiences today. Look to the future. Someday, people will look back and say "Gosh, that is a good movie." It works for Blade Runner.

Tyrannis, I've seen all of those films. You could also add "Our Song" and "Manito," to that list. The latter is scheduled to open in theatres next month. Although I haven't seen the film, "Washington Heights," which just opened last week in New York City has gotten some good buzz.

There are worthwhile films out there. The question is: Will regular filmgoers (the ones who don't read reviews) go out and suppport them in significant numbers?
