So, What's The Matter With Eye Candy?

A friend of mine showed me his DVD copy of "Chasing Papi". While I thought the movie was for the most part too light and stupid. Its visuals were stimulating. I'm talking about its female leads; Dancer Roselyn Sanchez, Mexican Soap Actress Sofia Vergara and Christian/Spanish Singer Jaci Velasquez. I have never seen a movie with such a lovely bunch of ladies.

This is why I never object to movies having great Eye Candy. Yeah, this movie as a story blows chunks, but it's also very easy on the eyes. I would had never gave this movie a chance if it wasn't. If latinos want to see more of themselves on film, they have got to use their strengths. Latinas are some of the most beautiful women in the world. Lets see more lovely latinas on film(And I'm not talking about Jennifer Lopez). Lets see these lovelies do more of their thang and then, we can start b1tchin' about story quality. So, I ask again, What is so wrong with Eye Candy?

I didn't get to see the whole film, and while it was very formulaic, I thought it was kind of fun. Very predictable, but sort of a feel-good. Anyway, Tomas was really sexy! I wouldn't say it was purely empowering for women, but I think it had a lot to do w/ latina women defining their identity. Then again, maybe it's a girl thing.
