Good Luck

I'd like to wish good luck to the stars of this movie. The only "leading man" role that I know that Eduardo Verastegui was given was in the telenovela "Alma Rebelde." He played twins in this soap opera, one good, the other one bad. He starred opposite Lysette Morelos, who is HOT, and Araceli Arambula, who is also HOT. However, that was almost four years ago. For awhile, I thought that his career was on the verge of being over. Luckily, for his fans, he's back on track.

I hope that this is one of Roselyn Sanchez's better movies; she is definitely HOT. I first saw her on "As the World Turns"; I'm glad to see that Ming Na Wen wasn't the only actress who graduated from that day time soap. Unfortunately, I can't say that I'm a fan of Sanchez's more recent pic, "Boat Trip." I know that people have to work to pay the bills, but "Boat Trip", to put it mildly, was not one of her best films.

In any case, I wish good luck to Miss Sanchez and Mr. Verastegui. May this film be a success for them and all those involved.

Also, Good luck to Jaci Velasquez. As a Christian artist, many teen and pre-teen girls look up to her. I hope she doesn't compromise her beliefs. If only to support Jaci I am definitely going to see this!

I don't know if she officially "compromised" but I do remember reading an article in a Christian teen magazine about this movie before I saw it. I forget the whole of it, but the gist is that she hopes that her auidence knows that she didn't do anything raunchy in this film. I beg to differ. I watched it to see what her definition of "raunchy" was, and I was sickened. She looked like a cheap hooker in the lingerie they made her wear in order to "surprise" Papi. Am I the only one annoyed with this?

I'm not psycho, just a little loopy...

Too late. The film crashed and burned with $3.159m in its total gross.

I knew this movie looked like a car crash.

The film hasn't crashed and burned -- yet. Going by the dollar gross is very misleading. The film is in one-forth the theatres of most major releases. Despite scathing reviews, "Chasing Papi" is already on the verge of outgrossing Fox's 2000 Latino release, "Woman On Top," which opened in roughly twice the number of theatres -- that was a flop.

"Woman On Top" opened in 1,085 theatres and went on to gross $5,018,450 in the U.S.

Meanwhile, "Chasing Papi" opened in only 551 theatres and as of 27 April 2003 has a U.S. gross of $5,009,234.

In other words, "Chasing Papi" in just 17 days has made only $9,000 less than Fox's previous Latino movie during its entire theatrical run. By comparison, "Chasing Papi" is a hit.
